Rifle Bedding

With the aluminum bedding block I had 5/16" holes that were of course perpendicular to the stock already machined into the aluminum. The bushings I used were actually quite snug and had to be lightly tapped in. My only short coming in this part of the process was I couldn't find 1/4 x 32 bolts to cut down and use as recommeded by AINyhus. Although there was very little if any movement with the all-thread I used, I would have rather used the cut down bolts. The risk I was worried about was accidently epoxying the bushings to the aluminum. That's why I waxed it more than everything else. That would have been a whole different rodeo I would not have liked.
So what is the trick to preventing the epoxy washup above the aluminum bedding area? Or should I have left it alone? That was a pain in the ass.

Defiance Deviant. I bought this off a PRS guy last year with about 1000 rounds on it.

That doesn't have 1/4-32 action screw threads....they are 1/4-28 (1/4" NF) just like a Remington 700.

1/4-32's are for Winchester Model 70's. Wondering how you came up with 1/4-32 threaded rod and how that went into 1/4-28 holes?

Well obviously I didn't identify all-thread properly. Damn good thing I took action screws w me when I went shopping. They are 1/4 - 28 as you pointed out. I have thread gauges I use when I need to. I just took the action screws when I went and didn't check with guages.
Curious thing...everybody had bolts in that size and thread up to 2" long. Could not find anything longer. After you cut the head off it wouldn't clear the bottom of the stock. Maybe I should have hit auto parts store somewhere.

My local Ace Hardware stores have bins of long 1/4-28 bolts. The 6" ones have 2" of thread. After shortening the threaded length and cutting off the head you end up with a nice 4" section of smooth shank.....works great.

You know, we have an Ace Hardware but I never think about going there. My wife and I have shopped there for things you can't find locally but great day in the morning, their prices are higher than a giraffes arse.

I'm a 'frequent flier' at my local Ace store....they have a lot of stainless bolts and hard to find hardware. Plus, they have a popcorn machine by the front door...on the house.

These are the ones I use I got from my local ace hardware . After cutting head off trimming down threads and rounding one side. They work great.

Thats what I was after and attempted it with the only size I could find. 2". I couldn't grab them from the bottom after installation so I baled and went and found the all-thread.

I had .01 clearance everywhere once I finished "shaping" the aluminum a little until I was setting even on everything. Then I placed .01 shims/washer spacers over the action screw holes.

I was too lazy to make a scraping tool to match the barrel channel so I bought this at Harbor Freight. The edges are sharpened like a knife which isn't the proper way to prep an edge scraper. It still did a great job helping me get more room around the barrel.

Set of impact (phosphate coating) deep set sockets wrapped in 60/80 grit works great :)

And here's the final product. The blue arrows are pointing at the most time consuming part of final cleanup. I should have gone straight to the shop and routed it out to start with.
The green arrow shows where I Dremel cut an 1/8" or so in front of the recoil lug for more room.
Where the red arrow is was probably my biggest sin. When I passed over it with the router it blew off. Had to be improper cleaning and prep. Not sure it matters.
