.20 Tactical Hunting Bullet

I have never used a Sierra Bullet to groundhog hunt with. I have always used a V-max or a hollow point Berger for most other calibers I use. My .20 Tac shoots a 39 grain Blitz King pretty darn good. Does anyone have any feedback on the bullet?

I've shot lots of prarrie dogs with it with great results. I don't think there's a ground hog on earth that would walk away from one of them in the boiler room or noggin. I really like the Berger 35's too BTW

The 39 BK is poison. Groundhogs are my thing and I like the 40 Vmax in my 20VT, but I piled up 26 GH in one day with the little 34 gr dogtown, including a double (never did that before on GH) so you can imagine what a better bullet like the 39 will do. Just good luck finding them!

I've shot thousands of them at ground squirrels. They are accurate and explosive. In my .20 Practical, they are the most accurate, with the 40 V-Max VERY close behind - at roughly 30% less price and much better availability. If the price were anywhere close to being the same, I'd only shoot those 39's. I can shoot up almost a hundred dollars or more in price difference in a single day.

On larger bodied varmints such as your quarry, the 39 BK is a great choice. In my experience it’s a little tougher bullet than the 40 V-Max.

I remember a trip to northern Wyoming close to the Montana border very fondly.
The 39 BK was fairly new at the time and I was shooting my 20BR attempting to get in the 500 yard club. As luck would have it I shot 3 pd’s in a row, if I remember correctly one was at 498 one was 499 and one was at 520 yards. Ever since that day I have liked the Blitz King, while not the same as your intended ground hog those pd’s died right there not one crawled off. While not a lot of gore was present those bullets expelled all their energy in those big bull pd’s
and did the job quite well.
While my load was not quite full throttle for a 20 BR it started out at 4000 FPS and is at a very accurate node. I am sure the 39 BK out of 20 Tac shot at ground hogs out where you can accurately place your shots is completely capable of killing them very nicely. Hunting ground hogs with a 20 caliber is definitely a worthwhile endeavor, enjoy.

I gave up on the 39 BK (204R) after 3 coyote, poor penetration on frontal shots, angled close shots. Whether calling day or night sometimes you have to take the shot, regardless of the coyotes angle and the bullet must reach vital organs.

I have had real good luck with these out of my 20 Tactical and 20 Vartarg XP100’s on groundhogs .
