Bulk fill resin/epoxy?

I use a lot of glue around the home/shop. I got a gallon of the west systems stuff

Every time I've purchased marine-tex in the past few years, the jars have gone hard within a few months.

Interesting. I inherited a MarineTex kit off my deceased gunsmith. It'd be maybe five years old. I bedded an action about four months ago and other than being possibly higher viscosity when mixing it, it set perfectly well.

I could have been getting ancient kits from a Brownells warehouse.

I hate stock work.

Nothing is actually straight and level. I know you just have to eyeball it and make it work, but it drives me crazy.

I use a very thin self leveling type of epoxy to fill bolt handle and port cuts. It's crystal clear and I add some epoxy coloring to get pretty close if that's needed. Tape off the inside and outside of the stock and with the stock perfectly horizontal, pour the notches full. It shapes well and a four flute end mill cuts it w/o the chipping and fraying that glass fibers can give you.

Lots of ways to skin cats and yours looks good. :)

I've got some JB Weld drying on it now. The shell of that stock is some magic stuff that no tape I own will stick to. It's very interesting.

Speaking of stuff that doesn't stick...I use that plastick-y white packing material to stuff into areas of the stock when bedding. Epoxy doesn’t stick to it and clean up is "As easy as peeing in bed" (one of my Dad's sayings). :p

I've got this HS stock built for a Savage. Sold the action. But I love the stock. I have a lefty single shot I want to put in it.

What would you fill it with? I could just dump a half pound of devcon in it and then make it how I want.. but I'm curious if there's some other fill/resin that I don't know about I could use for the job.

do you want to add weight or save weight? does anyone add lead shot to the mix?

I have added lead shot to Accraglass to fill the open forearm voids in a composite Rem Varmint stock to stiffen and eliminate the twistiness in the forearm.

I filled the butt stock with shot alone and packed it tight with the butt pad.....doesn't make a sound.

Ended up with a functional 18 pound PD colony slayer. It's a little out of balance and I could switch to steel shot in the butt, however it's a Vartarg and shoots well so I haven't made the change.
