I form several cartridges from 45-70 brass, but do not know the 33WCF dimensions. I used to sell sets of case forming dies and kept one for myself, so forming different cartridges are not a problem. 2 below are on 458 Lott basic brass and 38 special.I am looking for advice/opinions, how to go about using 45-70 brass (various head stamps) to reform into 33 wcf, using a 33wcf form/trim die? Thanks in advance.
I use two of my little inserts to form 40-65 from 45-70 brass and fire form. I bought a rifle from a forum member that also shot 40-65 and he was kind enough to include a lot of Bertram brass and 45-70 brass. I am now set for my 1886 lever gun and the C Sharps rifle. If you have a complete form die set ,45-70 to 33 WCF, follow the directions or call the manufacturer for the if u don’t have a copy. I used to form 40-65 and that was easy. 33 has a bottleneck case but just follow directions
So about .002" different. About 1/2 the thickness of a hair.I think the 33 WCF case is .610" rim diameter and the 45-70 is nominally .608"
its why 45-70 will work in these conversionsSo about .002" different. About 1/2 the thickness of a hair.
