Rimfire cleaning ?

Yup, VFG pellets wouldn't use anything else. gives me the best control on how tight the fit is to the bore.

I went with the VFG pellets for awhile and eventually went back to 7/8" round patches on a Pro-Shot jag. The pellets are great but they're pricey and kind of a pain to use. I thought they cleaned the bore better but after going back to patches I've seen they do the job just as well and no messing around with tension. The 7/8" round fit just right

I not sure how they are a pain to use, I find them much easier to use especially during a match. they do cost more but I feel being able to control the amount of tension and minimizing possible flex of the rod is worth it.
a 500-count bag will last me about 3 months or so. at current price and shooting 4 times a month that's about $8.00 per month. not sure what patches cost I haven't bought any in 8 or 9 years perhaps.

At least in my guns I have to get the tension just right. A little too tight and it's not going through the bore. I have to pull it out and loosen it and try it again. Sometimes it's messed up when Ivpull it back out. So take the one off and put another one on. Too loose and it doesn't work as well. I usually get the tension right but find it a pain when I don't. No issue with a 7/8" round patch and a jag. The tensions the same everytime

With the pellets you push it through and go to the end of the barrel to unscrew the felt from the holder to remove. Definitely a pain depending on where your cleaning. At ARA Nationals I was setup in the middle of a cleaning table. I had to walk around the table to remove the dirty pellet. With a patch you knock the cleaning rod handle in the end of the guide a few times and the patch falls off the jag. No movement involved

As I shot various matches this year I noticed just about everyone was using patches and a jag. I don't remember seeing anyone using the VFG felts. I'm sure someone was but I didn't see them

Yeah, in the beginning I had that problem of not getting them just right on the jag, but I been using them for so long that rarely happens now. I can also see if you are on a wide table trying to remove them would be a challenge.
as far what others do or use, I never pay attention to that. I don't even notice what rifles are being shot.

I thread them on most of the way and push them in the bore. Once the pellet engages the rifling, I twist the rod while the rifling holds it to get the pressure right. The first one just pushes out garbage. The rest are for cleaning.

Once the rod exits the crown, I grab ahold of the rod and spin off the dead pellet.

Those are one of the patches I use. I also buy Allen synthetic patches that Walmart carries. I tried the Hoppes cotton patches but don't care for them. I've had too much trouble with cotton patches getting stuck in my .22 bores even with a 20 caliber jag.
Do these look like the synthetic patches you're referring to?

I bought a package (Outers) several years ago. I dislike them for cleaning barrels but it turns out they work perfect for using with the tuner cleaner I make. Cotton patches work ok too but they need to be cut down or they're a little too tight. I'd like to find a source for the synthetic patches to recommend to people who buy the tuner cleaner. The Outers part number on the package is now the same thing but they're cotton
