Pretty well complete for next seasons Hunter wars. As it sit, it's 9 lbs./15 oz. with a full profile 20" Hunter contour barrel that's 4 lbs/14 oz, an 18 oz. steel tube T6, steel trigger guard and extra tall Kelbly's double rings. A Burris HBR scope can pare 4 oz., an alum trigger guard another oz. and there's maybe another oz. in some different rings. That can go in the weight system I'll finish up soon. An alum. butt plate will add another 2 ounce. I hedged bets on weight in anticipation of the Hunter rules possibly going to 10.5 lbs. in the near future.

Good shootin' :) -Al

Is there still a magazine requirement for Hunter? I haven't kept up. WH
No magazine box, spring or follower needed. Actions still have to be repeaters (magazine cut) and a maximum of 1.400" width. No glue ins allowed. Max wt is 10 lbs, fore end width is 2.250" and 6X scope. Barrels have to be Hunter taper of 1.250 for 4" and then a straight taper to .750 @ 26".

Never saw a hunting rifle that looked quite like that.
Pretty sure it's purpose built for a specific shooting classification.

If I'm wrong I apologize but it sure looks that way.

This sort of thing is why I think shooting sports are a lot like NASCAR. It's a lot about what can be read into the rules.

No animosity towards AL. Just my thoughts.

The Hunter (Hunter Bench Rest) class is an officially recognized class in both the IBS and the NBRSA and have been contested since the 1970's. Both organizations crown a National Champion yearly.
I should have added a winky after my attempt at humor. ;)
Yes I know there is a hunter class however I wasn’t aware of date it was established of the exact rules towards scope power or muzzle diameter etc.
Now I do,
Thx

Al, appropriately homely.:p Finally, "found" the WolfPup barrel and set it aside - "in plain sight" - the box says it weighs, guess what? Yup - 4#-14 Oz.o_O RG
Buddy...it's almost like it was planned that way or something! Spent some time yesterday going through scabrous brass. I still have 35 pcs. from when they were last shot in that barrel circa 2013. Heck, there's still 15 or so that are loaded. The O.G. gansta' WolfPup barrel, a 17 twist Kostyshyn still looks great via the Hawkeye.

That's good, because my hunter has a magazine cutout but not a true magazine. There was also a requirement for a functional safety (mine has one). I used to produce three lever conversions with a safety for that purpose. I'm not sure if that requirement still exists either. WH

It all looks good until you get to that “6x scope” thing.

That is the true defining factor of HBR.

Jackie, it's been 10 years since I competed with a HBR gun. I'm anxious for school to be back in session. Randy is a stern task master...no doubt he'll get me beaten into shape.

Finished hanging my outside Christmas lights yesterday and had some time to whittle this single shot follower from .250 aluminum scrap. It's basically a copy of a Davidson unit. The notch in the rear is for clearance for the rear bolt sleeve that Mike Bryant fitted.

Finishing up a few odds and ends on it. These Kelbly's extra tall rings are really solid...almost too solid. There's so much beam strength above the dovetail that it can be hard to get tight to the rail w/o risking the threads. So, I added a little flexibility to them:

Next was lapping with a home made ground 1" bar. The Field And Cave scope checker top is pretty slick for this. Some nylon powder to the two part epoxy allows just a bit of conformability for slight differences in scope tube dimensions. Bedding the lapping bar makes the fit pretty universal from scope to scope.
