6BR for Long PD --What Bullet?

I was on a pdog trip last month where the 87vmax's out of a 6br blew pdogs up at 660 yards. They were new ones. The ones I bought from you last year, I put on paper at 100 and 300 yards. Threw the load together off of Quickload. 5/8 moa at 300. I know I can make it better.
Are these 2022 bullets or old stock?
I've bought more from BCR 3 months ago while I was there.

I have no doubt that 18 year old 87 vmax shot well.

Just the new ones are the problem.
Funny you say that. Was preparing to load some 87’s the other day and noticed a difference with my measurements. I always kept an 87 in the case with my OAL tool but it is an older one. Used it for my measurements but was loading new ones. Measured the first one I seated and saw the difference. Lesson learned I guess.
So I measured the one that is probably 8-9yrs old and also one out of a new box.

Old is top pic/new is bottom pic

I'm curious to see your findings. I would LOVE to figure these out.

One thing I noticed is that you need a REALLY long freebore to keep them out of the donut.

I'm using a bushing die and only size part of the neck, shouldn't this keep any donut clear of the projectile?

I just measured the 2 different lots of 87vmax's that I have with my comparator, 0.006" difference between the 2.

shot the 87 vmax today out of my Savage/Shilen 6br(8T). Varget in .2 increments from 30.3 to 30.9, loaded .020” off. Shot (2) 5 shot groups of each.
Had slight pressure at 30.9 and groups opened some to about .700, but 30.5 shot in the .3’s.
I will take that as a win for today since I was fighting a wobbly wooden bench and haven’t had any trigger time recently due to rt shoulder surgery. That has me believing there is more in the tank with some tweaks, and if I can do better, which is usually the case…

Well crap!!!

I'll guess I'll try another batch. I have a brand new 6bra 160 FB and I'll make some up.

87 vmax sticks into the case almost as far as a Berger 108.

160 fb at touch. If it likes to shoot jump it will be even further in the neck, then I'd say 140 MINIMUM for this bullet in 6br.
