Recommended Ear Pro For HUNTING
Ive been using otto - -after 3 years the battery's are dying - good for all day when new -now 2 hours -looking at bying another set unless there is something better

I have a set of peltor tactical sport that I have replaced the two AAAs in them 3 times that I can think of. Batteries last forever and have auto shutoff after x amount of time they will give you a beep that they will be turning off.
Just push the volume button to keep them on.

I really like my Sound Gear instant fits. Batteries last a full day and Sam’s is really cheap on the batteries.

I've been researching Otto and Etymotic lately, and just recently pulled the trigger on the Otto NoizeBarriers which are nearly identical to the Etymotic GSP Elite. Just received them today and the "high" setting is what I'll be using for deer hunting, except when I am making a lot of noise myself walking (I have moderate-severe hearing loss). The sound on "high" is loud but clear and smooth, much less harsh/crashy/screeching than my custom profiled 8-band hearing aids (Resound/Jabra). Directionality is also really good, but probably not quite as good as my hearing aids (which is not surprising to me). On "low", the ambient sound is just like when I am not wearing my hearing aids...which is simply too low for hunting.

There is something I wasn't 100% sure about, but was confirmed by Etymotic CS: the GSP-15 is exactly the same in terms of performanc, but with disposable zinc air batteries instead of the rechargeables.
So, depending on one's use profile, perhaps the GSP-15 is the best option...same performance, but you don't have to worry about the Li: ion batteries biting the bullet on you, after warranty expiration.

Hi ********,
Thank you for reaching out! You are 100% understanding the differences between the two products. The circuitry is consistent in both products, but the differentiator is going to be the disposable versus the rechargeable battery option.
Thank you,

Subject: gunsport pro vs. elite
Hi,
Can you confirm that the electronics hardware and software for the GSP15 and the GSE are just about identical, offering approximately the same performance in terms of blast suppression, ambient sound hearing, and hearing enhancement?
Hence, the only significant differences are the outer housing/controls and the type of power source (disposable vs. rechargeable batteries).
Is this about right?

If this is NOT correct, and there are differences in performance between the two models, can you please elaborate?
Thank you!

Regards,

I have been using the etymotic gps-15 for many years, my only complaint is ,they are so small that i have lost them . I recommend a small teather or run the cord through something, for me i usally wear a ball cap.

What tipped the scale for the Otto over the Etymotic?

Good question. I simply just found the Otto version first...perhaps in searching on MidwayUSA website...less than a couple weeks ago. And I am hunting this coming weekend, so I wanted to move fast, and wanted to play with them a bit first. Knowing what I know now, I probably would've gone with the GSP-15. I did pay full price, directly from Otto, and even expedited delivery. The most important thing for me was to have a solution before this weekend. But I am happy so far, and if I get 2-3 years out if them before the batteries go south, I will also be happy to spend money on what will likely be improved technology for what will likely be further degraded hearing.

If I form any noteworthy opinions after deer hunting this weekend (zone C4 in Cali), I'll report back here.

Been using ESP Classic analogs, for many years....standard 13 hearing aid batteries that last for 3-4 days, comfortable, but a bit pricey.

That battery consumption is way worse than most custom in-the-ear digital hearing aids which will do 12-14 days on a #13 zinc air cell. My (one-off) custom plugs which are built around top-end hearing aids will do a full week with the smaller #312 cells.

I see gunsport pro vs. elite are you saying elite is OTTO ?

It's widely believed that etymotic gunsport elite is the same as the Otto noizebarriers. Noone who has researched these products really disputes that.
What I believe was not so widely known--anf what was confirmed to me by etymotic customer support--is that the "guts" of the etymotic gunsport pro are the same as the elites (and hence the Otto noizebarriers), except they use disposable hearing aid type batteries rather than being rechargeable.
Therefore, with the gunsport pros, you can save a few bucks up front and get the same performance, so long as you don't mind using disposable (but fairly long-lasting) hearing aid batteries. This would also avoid fears of the earpro being rendered useless if the rechargeable batteries go south after warranty expiration, which can of course happen as shown in this thread i believe.

I was trying different stuff out for predator calling. Several kinds made it where i could hear the caller but that was about it. I could not ever hear a side by side 1/4 mile away. Naked ears i can here them way off. So i bit the bullet. 9 months later got me a muffler. Man it makes a difference. Thinking about another one so i can leave one on my main predator rifle and another to switch arto my other rifles. Best $750 i ever spent and that included the stamp price.
