Action choice?

Ok guys thanks for all the help! I pushed the button on the Kelby Atlas with the Brownells promo. $876 delivered. Cool I get to build my first rifle from scratch out of many dozens I have had over the years!!

We can keep going ya know! I just need to figure out now what chamber! I want to shoot 1000 yds, buck some wind but not get pounded and see hits so thinking 6mm. I'm currently shooting 105 Bergers in my 6Br 8t so maybe a 7.x twist with heavies in what? I cant decide from obvious and wildcat choices. 6prc peaks my interest. I only reload so factory ammo not a consideration. And then coppers or cupped? how many grooves? list of thoughts goes on!

That would kind of depend on your caliber of choice also. There are a lot of shouldered prefits for common calibers but for uncommon you will be waiting.

Well I could always do a common to get rolling and then put in an order for the uncommon.

You picked a lesser common action for prefits so your in stock barrel choices might be less also. Something like a 6mm Creedmoor will work for what you want.

I saw that Brad does prefits for Kelby Atlas so could do a 6 creed to get thing rolling. He owes me one anyhow.

You won’t regret it! The kelbly is phenomenal!

Why not just stick with the 6br or 6bra. Both extremely capable at 1000 yards! You want a little extra stink then 6gt or 6x47 Lapua.

If you want to step up, then 25 creed or 25 prc.

I already have a 6br in a light field gun with 2.5-10x optic. I want to keep it as 100-600 yd “truck gun’ and have a beefier dedicated rifle with more speed for 1000 mountain/varmint shooting. So in other words one step up from 6br, not 150-200 fps more with 105.

What bolt face did you go with? The prc takes a magnum and the others mentioned use a standard bolt.

I did a 308. Can always swap but wanted to get ball rolling with the promo.
Lots of choices for sure! I just dont want to make the mistake I have done x times before and have a cartridge that is not pleasant to shoot for a 50 rd + type session. Medium weight rifle no brake

I would step up to a 6.5, better wind bucking. 6.5 x 47. Maybe. At 1000yd there are days where a little more horsepower is valuable.

I was referring to the bolt face. I went with a 6XC long throat. It should should shoot right along side the 6.5's but more efficient and pleasant to shoot.

I guess I was the one that talked him into the 6XC. The 6XC with a Barnes 112 or a DTAC is hard to beat and Tubb always has brass. Always.
