Worst rifle you ever bought

Ruger #1 in 6mm Rem.

I did it ALL to that rifle. From front end spring bedding changes to back to trigger and ??? Best thing for it would be to drive it into the ground and tie the dog to it.
You didn't have a 12 twist barrel trying to shoot long'ish bullets did you, like 100 or heavier longer jacket bullets?

Ruger 77 in 22hornet after 2 trips back it still had a tough time staying on paper at 100 yards, slightly better at 50.
2nd was a Remington 700ML first one I had you could not find a bullet strike anywhere on the 50 yard berm. I sent it back and they sent a new one that I still have, it used to put 4 in a large hole at 100, haven't shot it in at least 10-12 years so I don't know about now.

Same exact rifle as Roger's post above, a Ruger 77, in 22 Hornet. Ruger was buying barrels from Wilson and they were pure garbage. No matter what I had done to it, it wouldn't shoot. Sent it back to Ruger's NH plant and after a month of hearing nothing I called and they said they wouldn't work on it because I had the trigger worked on. I told them to send it back to Sparky's Gun Shop in Webster, Mass and Sparky ended up selling it for me.

Ok there are actually 2 rifles a model 99 Savage lever action and a Springfield M1A1.

The story is that I though the Savage was crap but I managed to get hold of several other and they all shot like crap.

The M1A1 surprised me because I on occasion carried one in the military, however our group had its own armorer. I got one and had an opportunity to shoot several more, out the door with that one too.
Springfield made a folding stock M1 Carbine????

Not rifles I bought but have from my uncle. Norinco SKS-shot four clips of eight through it. Never hit the target at 200 yds. Moved up to around 50 and it would hit the target about like my Beretta 682 gold e sporting gun. I think the brass ejecting might be more dangerous as it sure throws them out there. The Remington nylon 66 Apache did a little better but does have crown damage from getting drug on the road off my dads motorcycle when I was little. Going to try and clean up the crown to see if I can get it to group better. I need to sell his rifles as he can not get out to shoot or hunt anymore (on O2 full time now) and get him some money.

Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 243. With factory ammo its best groups were in the 2.5 MOA range. Replaced the rubber stock, trigger, bedded it, lapped the barrel and the bolt and poured hundreds of dollars into bullets, powder and primers searching for a load. In the end I got it to shoot about 1 moa. Sent a rant to Remington and asked them what kind of varmints they envisioned being hunted with this gun? Ferrel Mules a 100 yards? They replied saying they wanted to see it. I sent it to them, they tested it, they sent it back with a sample target saying it was within spec. The target was 1.5 MOA. That gun was gone the next day.

It isn't just Remington
Had a very similar experience with a Savage in .308Win.

After that I just presume all I'm getting with a purchase is an action and have changed my buying habits accordingly.

Working with a Remington 770 now. It as free so........ maybe I can get it to hit a pie plate at a 100. RG pistol was probably the worst. Think I had $50 in it. Mini 14 wasn't awful if you needed a ammo unloader or bullet puller that was noisy. Had a H&R handi rifle heavy barrel .223 that would shoot about 2" at 50yds. I really wanted to like it but oh that trigger.

Easy, Marlin model 60. Gun wouldn’t run, I had it back in high school for a couple months. I’ve matured since then but at the time it had jammed one too many times and I wrapped it around a pine tree. I didn’t want anyone else to experience the misery and frustration and ended it. Jackrabbit shoots with my high school buddies was serious business, we would hop in the back of a truck and shoot 20-30 jacks in the evening cruising the old farm roads. You had to be fast and after 4 summers and falls of doing it we were pretty good, a jack didn’t stand much of a chance of seeing another day once spotted but it was beyond aggravating when your rifle wouldn’t work. I had worn a 10/22 out when I bought the MarLin, growing up I’d shoot at least a brick a week and my original 10/22 finally gave up the ghost. I wish I knew the round count on that first 10/22. After the Model 60 I went back to a 10/22 and lived happily ever after.
Love my Marlin model 60. Bought it new in about 1977 for $57. It accounted for tons of rabbits and chipmunks. When I put a 3/4' Bushnell 4X scope on it, it was a freaking sniper rifle, at least for a twelve-year-old. Mini Mags from Western Auto were .88 cents a box.
You must have been using that crappy Remington stuff. Too this day I use CCI primers and have never used Remington primers. I figure if they can't make decent rimfire ammo , they probably can't make decent primers.

Never used Remington growing up or winchester wildcat. I was using Super X back then, it’s all we ever used mostly because the selection down at Yellowfront was limited and the super X was the best we could get.

It’s always dangerous calling out a bad experience your bound to ruffle a feather.

A Remington 597 22LR. It jammed with 6 different manufacturer’s magazines and hated just about every kind of ammo I fed it. I cleaned it and even sent it back to Remington twice and each time they said it functioned perfectly…..then I’d take it out to shoot and by round 3 or 4 it would jam.
Best part was even when I single fed it ammo, and shot off a nice rest, that gun would shoot 1.0”+ 5 shot groups at 50 yards with no wind. It was comically inaccurate. I could easily outshoot it at 25 yards with my 8 yr olds Red Ryder BB gun (and NO, I’m not exaggerating). Total POS.

Same here… it was my very first rifle. Shot spectacular. However, the trigger group kept breaking down. Sometimes safety wouldn’t work. I just finally got tired of fixing it and gave it up.

Unlike a lot of folks, I have owned several Ruger bolt guns and they shot really well (but not with factory ammo). That streak ended with a new Mini-14. The other posting follow who said 6" groups - that is a bit worse than mine - but not by much. Finally got them down to 3". I got rid of that almost as fast as a Reminton Nylon 66 .22 back in the 70's.

When the 17wsm came out I bought a savage Bmag. Point of impact was never the same place twice. Groups just didnt happen. I replaced the scope, mounts double checked etc. Tried everything I was reading. Most guys it seemed were buying stocks, bedding them, trying pressure points even. No thanks. I had high hopes. It was the first time I jumped on the buy something new bandwagon. I will go back to waiting a year two for results when something new comes out. Sold it to a friend who played with it for a while. Pretty sure he still has it.

I understand Ruger has fixed some problems with the mini 14 and the new ones shoot pretty good. They ought to at $1200. It's an interesting simi-auto though.
