Colt Woodsman ???

Someone did a home made port, way to big, with a hacksaw or something crud. And yes the Woodsman 22lr are worth way more now, than when they came out, years ago.

My Grandfather had a Colt Woodsman Target we used to shoot when I was a kid. He also had a 1911 from his US Army days in the 1920s. I asked my grandmother about them after he passed. She said she had not seen them in years and had no idea where they were but was sure Grandpa had kept them.
After she passed, my mother was the executer of the estate. The guns were found and inventoried but disappeared before being officially dispositioned. I would have loved to see them again, especially the Woodsman.

I've got my dad's 4 1/2" sport model. Was purchased new in 1955 by my mother as an anniversary gift to my dad. It was the first gun I ever shot when I was very young.

Way back in my Bullseye and Combat Pistol days funded by Uncle Sam, my box housed a High Standard Model 103, S&W Model 52, M1911A1 Wadcutter gun, and an M1911A1 for Hardball. Many of the more Senior NCOs could afford to purchase their own competition .22s and they typically went with S&W Model 41s in either the 5” heavy bbl, or the slim 7 1/2”(?) bbl.
I recall seeing many Colt Woodsman pistols like the first generation Target Model with the “elephant ear” grips. Most of us shot what we were issued and the majority were High Standards of varying models/barrels.
The guys standing on the podium after matches did so due more to their skill sets than the equipment, as all of the aforementioned models were in hand with the medals.
Love my Woodsman 3rd Gen, and my High Standard Model 104, and still looking for a S&W 41.
The OP’s gun is an odd modification, but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to shoot it as is.
A competent Smith could indeed further this project for a suppressor and the fun level would absolutely increase!!

I've never owned a hacksaw that would make a cut like that. We didn't get to see my Bud's pistol as he changed his mind about selling it before we saw it. Still looking for one.

I've got a first gen Woodsman, 1938 I believe, and as crazy as it sounds, I just gave away another one that I just inherited from a friend. My friend was kind of like a step mom/sister to me, and she and I spent many hours over the years shooting our Woodsmans with and against each other and other folks. Her's was in much better cosmetic shape than mine, although it was much older, (four digit) Those pistols are about as peachy as it gets if you ask me. jd

I experienced "inventory shortages" when I was executor of my parents wills and there were only 3 of us involved.

What the other 2 don't know to this day is that shortly before my mother's death she and I went thru the disposition list and everything was accounted for. Figured that if someone was so greedy to steal from their siblings that sometime in the future it would catch up with them---it did.

Before you do any thing contact prewoodsman on rimfire central
He can tell you what you have.

The op's gun has already been altered with the front sight moved back and the barrel threaded. I would just cut off the threading and re-crown the barrel. I love mine. It's one of my favorite campsite plinkers, so light and accurate.
