Suppressor for a 300NM - Rugged / TBAC

Looking to put a can on my 300NM. What I have locally available is the Rugged 36. I know the most popular is going to be the TBAC 338. But they are more than double the cost, and currently out of stock where I'd normally order online. I do have a ultra 7 30cal, and another one I can't remember, so not my first can

They seem like really different cans, but both rated to the 338LM.... Doing this for recoil reduction and noise. I currently run a gentry brake on it. Started with the Area419 brake, which was great, but concussion was way more than I liked.

So really just wondering how a can thats half the weight and size (rugged 36) would perform VS the tried and true gold standard TBAC 338??

Have you considered the TBAC Magnus instead of their 338 can, it would save a little weight and length?

I've never been around any Rugged cans but the TBAC 338 Gen2 and Magnus are exceptional and I would really struggle to see how the much smaller Rugged can could even come close to the Magnus or 338 Gen2 in noise suppression or recoil reduction.

For the NM, I would recommend the Magnus, as already recommended, the Dead Air Nomad LT, and the CGS Hyperion. Not really a need to go with a .338 or larger bore suppressor unless you also have a .338 or .35 cal rifle you want to use it on as well.

I ordered a TBAC Ultra 5 for my lightweight 300PRC. Still about a month out, so no reviews. Obviously very purpose built use, but weight saving and packability was primary concern. What don't you like about the 7?

I have a Hybrid 46 that I use now, so that's my catch all. Just too big for the profile barrel I have on this gun.

The DA Nomad LTi for its size and weight is a, very, impressive can. I would have suggested it as well but couldn't remember if it was 300 NM rated so I didn't mention it but I just looked on DA site and it says it's rated for use up to 300 Norma mag so that would be a good one to get too. I've never owned a CGS but I hear they make a very good product as well. It's really close to the same size/weight as TBAC's Magnus but the Magnus meters a bit quieter so for me I'd go with the new Magnus.

One thing is for certain though, any of those three would be a good choice!

Great points. I called my dealer to see if he can order the magnus.

I have the older Ultra 7. It says it’s rated to 300RUM. I guess I was thinking the Norma was a bigger package. Maybe I got that wrong.

I use a 338 ultra for everything from 223 to 300NM

I use a Nomad-L for my 300 Norma. Forgot to put plugs in and shot it once. It sounded like a lightning crack from God. But my ears were not ringing.

I would not say it's hearing safe per say, but if I had to shoot one shot during hunting season with no ear protection, I would rather have that than nothing at all. Or heaven forbid, a muzzle brake.

I have the Dominus SR that I use on my 26" 300 norma improved, 22 and 23" 300 wsm's, 6.5 SST, and 6.5x47. Ive thrown the 338 ultra SR on the 30 cals and a magnus SR that I got in for a buddy. Honestly the dominus SR will stay on my norma improved and everything else I use for hunting. Its only a few decibels louder than the magnus but alot shorter and lighter. The difference in sound wasn't HUGE between the 3 suppressors without ear pro on. Not enough to warrant adding the length and weight of the bigger cans. Especially on hunting rifles I pack around the mountains with. Just my opinion.

Was there any noticeable difference in recoil reduction with the bigger heavier cans versus the Dominus?

Not enough to make me want to use the bigger cans. With the dominus and shooting off a bipod with spikes on the feet I have no issues spotting hits at 840 yds with my norma and a 35x scope. 220 berger at a very mild 3000 fps. But its consistently 2-3" vertical at 840 yds. With my 300 wsm the reticle hardly leaves the target. My wsm is legitimately averaging 2" vertical at 840 yds. Thats off a bipod and a NF ATACR 4-20. Thats with the last half dozen groups Ive shot at that distance with each rifle.

I have a silencero 45 hybrid for my 450 bushmaster. I like it. Ive used it on customer rifles that didn't want a brake put on. Not verifying the accuracy of a 300 cal magnum without some sort of recoil reducing device lol. Its a nice suppressor especially with the anchor brake on the end. However its longer and heavier than my dominus and doesn't have the locking mechanism the dominus SR has. Pro's and cons to every suppressor. The dominus sr just checks more boxes for my intended uses. Stupid quiet for its size, full auto rated, lightweight, and won't come loose like a direct thread suppressor does.
