What wildcats are based off 30-30 brass?

**I have been told that the Set back dies were made by Paul Bike not Butch Lambert. I have PM in to Butch to verify. Will let everyone know as soon as I find out. Could be either on as my memory is NOT what it used to be
Sorry for any confusion**

Dies were made by Paul Becigneul pbike257. I can PM contact email to anyone who needs it. My apologies to Butch, don't know how I got confused
Sorry for any confusion

I just noticed butchlambert joined this conversation so I will share this with you. If you are going to form ANY 30/30 based Wildcats, you NEED one of these. 30/30 based set back die set (SEE PICTURE) . Butch makes them and they are a Lifesaver. I can form any 30/30 based wildcat down to 17 caliber, any length, with virtually NO wasted cases. I LOVE IT The quality is Superb. Buy one and you will wonder how you ever lived without it. All you need is the final full size die for your cartridge to finish the last step of forming.

I just saw a 219 Zipper Sedgley Springfield with a unertle on it in a gunshop in Boardman Ohio. I didn't look at it because the tacticool kids/Sandpit wannabes that were waiting on customers put me off with the big signs saying I was being watched from every direction on video...whatever. I felt like I walked into a CIA stakeout, not a local gunshop. Besides, I doubt they had ANY idea what a 219 was, let alone a Sedgley.

I had no idea . Probably 10 yrs late to the show but ...

Someone has a Wasp set of dies for sale in the forum. Old Hollywood. $70. So if you are thinking of building one...jump on this

Okay folks, I’m recovering from surgery (4 hernias repaired) and sitting here reading about stuff that I normally pass over.

I read a cool thread about a fellow shooting a 30-30 or improved? In the score Nationals.

Then I read a bunch of info about the Donaldson Wasp in the Benchrest Primer.

Just a few minutes ago, I read about some T/C shooters necking down the 30-30 brass to 6.5 and 6mm.

Now I’m super curious as to how many wildcats have spawned from the humble 30-30.

If you know of any, please share what you know.
Thanks

Technically not a wildcat any more, but there is the 25-35.
The 25-35 AI probably qualifies and was considered the cartridge whose performance was “most improved”.

I have seen in years past folks would say the. 30-30 case was weak, blah blah. The IHMSA crowd could be as hard on brass more than most would ever dream of. Buddy shot 30-30 for years with some stiff loads. Two of his lots had been loaded 25 times with zero problems, he moved them out just because he did t want to find a problem in the middle of a match.
I shoot cast in my 30-30 TC. Federal brass, I am 14 loading on it.
Another fellow shot the Herretts. His 30 would do better than most 30-30 pistols and was darn close to rifle velocities.
Do as you please, but for best end results virgin brass will give the most satisfaction. You can use range brass as a trial and error piece to get sizing done.

I have a BF pistol in 7US. A nice little cartridge to work with, have ran cast and jacketed in it with excellent results.

Are most of these 30-30 based cartridges designed for handguns? Or is that the following due to the rimmed case working so well in a T/C?

This is what I did on the 30 American case. Still have the reamers. I ground a tool to turn down and thin the rims to .473"

22 American
6MM American
25 American
7MM American FL
30 American FL
All of these are new to me….. I apparently live in a cave!
Do you have pictures you can share?

I don't. I'll see what I have laying around. These came about probably 30+ years ago when the supply of Sako 220 Russian brass dried up. And we liked to F with things back then. Still have several sets of Neil Jones dies for the 6MM along with a FL body dies.

A 30-30 likely holds about the same amount of powder as a BR with the same bullet????
Just thinking "out loud" without getting off my backside and checking.
