6BR To Dasher Forming ?

OK. I guess he is back in business.

… but just so you don’t think I’m crazy.

A buddy of mine fire formed BR to dasher this weekend. I didn't think it could be done but he did it. I wasn't there to see it but other buddies were there. I always thought you had to hydroform first.

I’m sure DJ’s service is good and gives you a jump on forming brass.
I use the false shoulder method to create a Dasher, using the COW method. Then a normal load to make a nice sharp shouldered case. Accurate enough for matches.

I could write it out, but it’s all right here…

There are many threads on using “Cream of Wheat” or pillow fiber fill or TP WITHOUT a bullet. I’m sure you’ll find what you need.

I've found either method to be effective. COW or hydro forming. Both are time consuming and make a mess on your bench or in your gun.

I have a Whidden hydro forming die. It works well. It takes time to perfect the process. There's a lot of people on here that can give you tips and advice.

No one told me that the Cream Of Wheat method could be done without the cream of wheat. So I just run about 9gr of Win231 with nothing on top. Blows the case out well enough to be resized and ready for a final full tilt fire form.

Save the headache and start with new brass. I thought I was gonna be smart and start with some used brass, so I wouldn't be messing up new brass. Used brass is very prone to spitting shoulders during forming ( I've found in my research from my experience). Just start new.

That's true, but if Lapua is un-obtainable, what would you suggest, doing without until it comes back in stock? Or maybe buy from a scalper on Gunbroker for 150% of MSRP?
I wouldn’t know sir I probably have a couple thousand virgin 6br cases and probably half that many fireformed. But to answer your question I might do whatever I had to. I see 6 br brass for sale on this site all the time and I’ve bought a lot off here at fair prices. I’ve never bought off gunbroker and I don’t suggest anyone does.

Load them to jam & shoot em is how most i know for it.

But DJ is good pol and can save you allot of supplies.. I'd say that's the best way to get there.

That's why i went bra.. dasher is too much trouble
