Cz 457 Varmint MTR

Ok guy's, I know it's been out a while but wanted some opinions on it before I make the purchase. Will it be good for local club shoots from 50 yards to 200 yards? Shooting usbr targets mainly. Optics will be a Sightron 45×45. Ammo will be lapua center x as long as it likes it. Front rest will be Caldwell Rock BR and edgewood rear bag fill with heavy sand. Thank you for your time.

Get the longer barrel model. My MTR never could get on the
order list so I snagged the long barrel AT-One. It's a shooter
with sorted Wolf Extra match......Enjoy !!

Yes. Might have to venture out from Center X to find the best fit for it tho, but you have everything you need to get it done.

My MTR shoots Center-X very well. Since that has been hard to find I have looked for alternatives and SK Biathlon and SK Long Range Match both shoot great.

Mine is a 24".....Made a little longer die for the Hollands bullet
sorter. and put a flat nose on the dial stem.

my MTR tends to win or be at the the top of most the local matches. I shoot smaller than standard silhouette size matches from 40-100 meters, and 50-200 yards and paper matches from 50 & 100 yards. I don't think it can be beat for the money. In fact, there are more than 50% MTR's on the range during the matches and they all fair pretty well. Mine likes a variety of Lapua, RWS and Norma ammo. It already comes with a match barrel, so I wouldn't consider switching barrels, unless what you have doesn't shoot (I'd find that hard to believe it won't though)

Petey....Are you shooting the rimfire matches at Ridgway ??

No. You can either shoot off of your bipod or the club provided front bag. No rear rest is allowed. However you can hold the back of the rifle steady without letting it touch the bench is ok ( hand, shoulder ) So it definitely adds to the human element into shooting this discipline. That really makes it attractive to me. It says something about being able to handle your rifle without being completely done for you by a rest front and back.

1K what is considered a good solid score with the targets you pictured?
Of course it depends on conditions. If there is much of a breeze, a score of 30 will usually get you a win or placed. If conditions are calm, a score of 32 to 36 is needed to place. The course record is 39 out of 40. My personal best is 36. Any time I leave the range hitting 30 or more I feel as though I have had a good day even if I don’t place. Those are tiny targets, and it does not take much to miss them between holding the gun steady and irregularities in 22 ammunition. There are three different classes hunter, standard, and heavy. I shoot a CZMTR in the standard class and a Vudoo in the heavy class. Definitely eliminate or reduce your intake of caffeine before the shoot. You’re the one holding the gun steady.:)

LOL..... Ridgway usually only has one condition !! You know the drill,
and a few colorful words.....LOL

It's a shame they don't have a class similar to the main VBR events,
where yinz could get to use your own rest equipment.....

So are you sorting rim thickness Fuj?

I am Dave.....I figured If the rims were consistant, The headspace would
be the same for each batch. I'm also thinking that an overly thick rim
could hinder ignition. I've yet to shoot them but I sorted 500 Wolf Extra
match and the spread was as much as .005". Oddly, the sort size was
pretty even with the edge going to the thicker side. I may chrono the
high against the low to see if things shake to that end.....Always something !!
