Front Rest Options for Benchrest shooting?

:p. We are all friends here. It’s ok to confess that she want let you use the 21st Century.
She won’t. She shot off it one time and took out the paint pen when we got home and immediately put her name on the carrying case. I’ve used the Shadetree top so much that I actually shoot better from it than the 21st century.

Tia,
Look at what the top shooters in your area of shooting off of. When a new rest is introduced shooters will transition, hoping to improve group size or X count. To be competitive in Benchrest Shooting really requires a joystick stick rest.

What rest are you currently using?

I have checked out most of them that are made ( except Rodzilla Raptor ) and went back to the orig. Seb Mini for 2 reasons. Transport and more importantly the rotating top. The orig. Mini can be had in the classifieds here pretty regularly for under 1K......If your quick on the button....;)

Regards
Rick

Seb Mini is my fav for some of the same reasons. I have a Mini and a Mini X on the way.

I use a Farley ( just brought back to competitive usefulness thanks to Mark Johnson ( majohnson from this site). I started competition with Bald Eagle ( Lock Haven vintage) windage rests. As much as rests have evolved in recent years, some still win with old style pedestal rests. Last season a long time competitor in IBS group and score recorded an amazing 250/25x w/ 16 wipeouts using the same Hart rest he has used since the 1980's. Congrats to Tom Messner for that feat using an LV rifle.

I am using an original bald eagle.
Would just like to upgrade.
Tia,
Enclosed is equipment list for the 2022 Super Shoot. Part of what make Farley popular is they have hold position when the rifle is fired. The SEB will not, although they are better with my tensioners at holding. There is a popular saying in shooting sports, “buy once cry once”. If you plan on sticking with the benchrest sport, look at what some of the top people use, and try each brand. Understand what the differences are between the brands.

Get to know what each brand of joystick should feel like. At one of your matches ask people with the different rests if you can feel their rest because you are considering buying one. What ever you do change the tensioner’s. Don’t buy a stop gap, once you learn to use a rest, then you can focus on improving your shooting.
