Panda 30br First Outing

Have not shot the Panda since April. Figured I would see if the load was still in tune. Humidity was high but wind was calm. I did not put out flags. In a hurry and very light wind.

Took a few shots to get the scope dialed in. I still shot ok after I got it together. 34.9 H4198, Cline on bullets, 205m primers, .20 off touch. Forgot to mention, velocity was 3050.

Shot a few more rounds with the 34.9 H4198, .20 off hard jam. The es was great, although the velocity was down to 3045. The wind was tricky and humidity high. The gun still seemed tune to me.

I have been shooting two different lots of brass. Can’t see where one shoots any better or different than the other.

Top left are 4 ten shot groups from my Vudoo.

So...you're jumping the bullet .020? -Al
No. I misspoke on the post above when I said “touch”. Thanks for pointing it out.

I am actually .20 off of what I call “hard jam.” Hard jam is setting the bullet long and then letting the bolt push it into the case. I started at that measurement and then backed off of the lands to work up this load, primarily because I expected the gun to shoot well at hard jam.

If you use the Wheeler method, which I normally do, my final load is .003 into the lands.

Looks like Jims making a good bullet. Im putting a ppc together, Im sure it will also get a 30br barrel as well. They are just too fun. :)

He definitely is. I have been able to get them to shoot small in two different guns using different powders.

Ok. I will throw in a curve. I decided to make a run at making 30br brass. I have plenty of Varget and also had some LT31 In a powder thrower. Tried to fireform with Varget but brass was .002 shorter than the LT 31.

So, here is what the LT 31 looked like fireforming. I had not shot in a month or longer. By the end, I was doing ok with gun handling. It took 31.5 or so to get crisp shoulders. As long as I was between 31.5 and 32 or so, I went with it. Using 125 TNT jammed hard.

Had a couple of hours over the last few days to load and shoot some so I decided to give a run at making my own 30br brass from 6mm Lapua. I started off with 52 pieces and figured that would be enough to shoot a match if it all worked out.

I firefomed using tnt bullets and 31.5gr of LT31. The brass needed at least one more firing to get sharp shoulders, but it is close enough in to do some general testing. This is my first time shooting Lt 30 in this barrel. I had it shooting dots in a 30br Bat 3l that I sold.

I started off trying 35.3 of lt31 and then went to lt30.

Lt31 35.3 2951fps Lt.30 35.3 - 2297fps
35.6- 3011fps
36.0- 3033fps
36.3- 3065fps

Here is the target for what it is worth. This is the second firing on my newly formed brass and I can tell it was not fully formed based on the fps and errant shots.

One thing is clear. Lt. 30 is significantly slower than H4198. With 34.7 of H4198, I get around 3050. This is when the temperature was in the 80s. I shot the Lt. 30 in colder temperatures 30-42 degrees. Still, it is much slower. I will finish working up this load with Lt30 and then go back and compare H4198.
