Rangefinders

Fellows I'm thinking about another rangefinder but I don't need to break the bank. I love my Leica but on deer and targets most days 750 to 800 is about all she will do. I would like to get one that can comfortably get to 1000-1100 reliably on animals. I have been looking at Vortex and Sig. It's hard to ignore Vortex's warranty. I'd like to stay under $400 if possible and less is even better. Anyone out there have experience with either or with another brand in that price range.

I know its not made anymore but i like my nikon black 4k. Have ranged elk at 1,659 yards. Good sized bolders to 2,900 yards. Used to shoot a friends 50bmg at 1,900 yards and was ranged with it.

Mavin RF-1 7-25

I picked up one of these recently and I think you should check it out......It's all I will ever need to know how far away things are. Had really nice glass and focus as well.

Regards
Rick

I like Vortex but those Maven's appeal to me. I have to get a new rangefinder for this year. It has come down to either one of these or I step up to the Vortex Fury 5000 binocular rangefinder.

I certainly do appreciate all the responses. I don't mind saving my pennies if it's worth it in the end. I do depredation shooting on very large fields and like to range as much as I can and make a data card plus I need accurate ranges on animals or I don't shoot. There are times when the Leica won't give me a range. I like the Leicas scan mode. It comes in very handy so I will definitely want that feature in whatever I get. I will definitely look at Maven.

There sure seem to be a lot of people satisfied with the Vortex rangefinding binoculars mentioned above. I wish I would have went that way.

Is your Leica an older horizontal model?

I have Leicas in the 2400 and 2700, and both will range coyotes past 1K.

Yes but I'm thinking mine is the 1200. Can't remember offhand. I only paid $125.00 for it years ago and it still looks new. It's been good I just need a bit more range now.

I had those back in the day, and they sucked.

Sold them when Leica came out with the 1600, they sucked too.

Sold those & bought the 2000 when they came out, sucked again.

When they came out with the 2700, it was a game changer, then bought a 2nd pair in the 2400, & they give up little to the bigger unit.

For out

For out to 500-600 it's ok. But we get a lot of heat and humidity and things go downhill fast. That's why I want to make sure whatever I get this time will suit my LD requirements.

I'm curious to how well the Maven's works on pdogs. I usually and will look at reviews and of course ask. I've used Leica and Bushnell out in Kansas and Wyoming and they both have worked to a degree. These of course are older models.

Maven and don't look back. Mine will range objects farther than a friend's Leica. Only downside is the Maven doesn't have a ballistics program. If that is important to you.

I started with a Leica 1200 Rangemaster. It would not range prairie dogs. I upgraded to a Sig Kilo 2000 and it was excellent. It ranged everything I pointed it at. That was until the display went out after 6 years. Sig's warranty is 5 years for anything electrical. After that, you're SOL. I did purchase a new Sig Kilo 5K and it's amazing the technology built into it with Bluetooth. Sig's ballistic solver is provided based on Litz's work. Leica went they're own route.
