Annealing

I didn't either. So I didn't. :) I personally don't think annealing is as important as many make it out to be. I don't bother at all - I have bigger fish to fry.
Well, if annealing is done by someone who doesn't understand the process then it is likely better they don't do it. Learning to anneal from your friend at recess may not be the best advice.
NTW, you cannot fry fish without some heat. ;)

I received my AMP a week ago. Money well spent! I've annealed just about every way possible and the AMP is hands down the most consistent. No guessing, no flames, no hot salt, no involved set up that requires holding your tounge just right... it just flat works with no questions.

I've been annealing by hand for a long time now In cases from 223 to military 7.62 x 51 and 30-06. Once you get the flame set right you just watch for the metal to change. Then when the line creeps past the shoulder I drop it in a bowl of water. It seems to help my brass size more consistently and trimming is easier. I enjoy the process and it goes quite fast. I then bake cases dry at 275 for 30 in the oven, Let sit for a few days then resize and tumble until the brass looks new.

You realize that dropping them in a bowl of water does nothing except get them wet, right?

Because of the thinness of the brass, it cools off very rapidly once it leaves the flame and not a lot of heat travels down the body to effect any annealing down there.

Never realized that. Was taught this method long ago. Was always told that it kept heat from traveling up into the case head area where it could possibly weaken it. No matter I can certainly stop and use my infrared thermometer to see what kind of temps make it up the case.
