What's going on with Sierra?

This is why:

The gun business is booming.
O.k. let's double the ammo the military was using 10 years ago during the height of Iraq and Afghanistan war if my math is correct thats 1.2 billion a year.
So your saying more gun owners are chewing up 600 million rounds.

Instant background checks? A friend with clean history waited over a month in Ohio trying to purchase a handgun. Finally said screw it. Gun shop did nothing.
Look at the rate of growth the numbers. The last couple years are skewed by california, but the growth in gun purchases is enormous. All those guns need ammo.

Believe what ya want. Everybody wants to blame more guns, military etc. So they get the warm and fuzzy paying 3-4x what they were 2-3 years ago

Does anyone have a brother in law or friend working at Sierra bullets and knows why some of their bullets are not being made? It's been a year and a half or so since they made 20 cal or 6mm 110 smk, out of both. Can't get anything out of Sierra, other than they will let me know when they have them
Ive decided not to use my components with sierra bullets since i dont know if i can get more for the loads id develop. So Im selling most of my sierras. Im able to find other brand bullets to do what i need that are available. if sierra ever becomes readily available again il prob start using them again. Im just not a guy who is gonna wait a long time on this stuff. Ill find other available components or if i cant go do something else.

This day and age is very confusing. I shot Bergers till I could not find my preferred bullet. Berger could not give me any time frame on delivery. I found a fantastic Sierra bullet. Bought enough Sierra to last a year or so. That Sierra bullet is now showing up again and I am stocking up again.
Might be best to always have a backup bullet on hand....I have and it is another Sierra.

If nobody is buying, there wouldn't be a shortage.

There is not a shortage of AR-15 and pistol ammunition. The distributors are well stocked.

The cover stories are a lie. From the beginning they were trying to blame black rifle sales and pistol sales to new shooters as the reason why the ammunition all dried up. Well that just isn't true.

The cover story that all the components are going into ammunition is actually true. It's just not going into ammunition for consumers.

I keep reading these threads over and over again and I just shake my head and wonder when the right wing is going to pull its head out of the sand and realize that it's being played. They did the exact same thing under Obama.

You know I'm starting to believe that maybe they create these things to COVER their buying sprees. Which are growing since Homeland security was formed. And the ammunition industry essentially has been not only completely privatized but consolidated into the hands of a few players.

So the military caliber ammunition that is readily available is not going to consumers, but the sporting ammunition that isn’t available is going to government agencies? This makes no sense whatsoever. I can assure you that when I call Sierra looking for a boatload of jackets, they sell them to me. It just takes a while because they’re busy.

Sigh.

Every one of these microarguments is simply a distraction from the whole problem. I keep seeing these responses about these little micro things that mean that the industry is just behind.

If you take the machines that run your entire product line and shift them over to run another product line then they aren't making that other product are they? Whether or not Sierra has jackets doesn't mean a hill of beans in the whole sense of what's happening. It's like looking at a nano spot on an elephant and saying that's the whole elephant.

The numbers simply do not add up because we're talking trillions of components here that simply are not making it to the commercial market for sale. Because The machines that produce those components are being used elsewhere.

But you just said that military type ammo *is* available. Long story short, the demand for military and civilian ammo is higher than the industry can keep up with and they have to prioritize what they make and sell. There’s no big picture. It’s just capitalism.

I am sorry brother, you are making no sense at all.

I have been saying that production of GOVERNMENT ammo has been essentially privatized (where they used to be nationalized industries). And there are totally NEW customers (Homeland Security) that are using "commercial" suppliers. THIS is where the ammo is going. Not target shooters or "new gun owners".
