Any major difference in H4198 and IMR 4198 in accuracy in 30BR

I realize charge is slightly different interested in accuracy difference IMR 4198 is readily available decent price can't find H4198 ???
There are other threads about this subject, just do a search or just look under my post that says similar threads. No need for starting another IMR vs H debate.

sorry I'm old not very computer literate don't know how to do that
Hey smoke, it’s not too hard. Look up in the upper right hand corner of your screen and you’ll see the word search. Click on that and a then enter some key words you’re interested in The search bar. Then hit enter and it will bring up past threads on the search words you enter. I tried one search, I entered H4198 IMR4198 and several threads came up. I’ll post a link below. A little practice and you’ll be able to find lots of old threads about subjects you have questions about - sometimes it doesn’t answer your question but it’s a good place to start.

Yeah, there's a bit of a difference.

The burn rates of the two powders is about the same. But IMR-4198 is a much bulkier powder. And since most competitors using H-4198 in .30 BR are already using compressed charges, going to IMR-4198 means a comparable charge probably isn't going to fit in the case.

Not saying a very accurate load with IMR-4198 isn't possible. Only that you're not going to get as much velocity as with H-4198. You'd have to find that accurate load in a lower velocity node.

You are apt to get a variety of responses/opinions as to what powder is best. I am having trouble finding some of my favorite powders so I have decided to give some new (to me) powders a try. So far the results have been promising. A4064 & A4350 looks to be good substitutes for IMR 4064 & H 4350 in my rifles.

I suggest you bite the bullet and buy a couple of pounds for a trial. After all, only your rifle can give you the final answer.

Are you currently using H4198 and looking to switch? Or are you just starting out with the 30BR?

How did you come up with most are using compressed charges? Most people that I shoot against in score matches are not. I have never in ten years of shooting a 30BR ever used a compressed load. I know one friend and his GF use a compressed charge but they are using N130 with a not so long drop tube. He loads at the range. Most people I know are going pre-loaded. No need to load at the range using a 30BR unless that's your thing.

Purely anecdotal observations, Jim. I could be totally wrong.

Where are the matches that you shoot? I am not far from you and have been thinking that it might be interesting to go to one as a spectator. What type of match? I believe that I would be most interested in F class, but really know nothing about it.

Sorry about hijacking the thread.

If a powder works ppl talk about it. No one talks about imr in a 30br.
Most i know shoot n130 or Lt30.

We have 3 different places in Maine to shoot. Damariscotta, Orrington and Augusta. From the first week in April to the first weekend in October. Tons of matches in Maine. There are four two agg matches at Bell City in Southington CT. Two two agg matches in St Johnsbury, VT. There are a few at Pinetree in Johnstown, NY. We only shoot IBS short range score matches. There is nothing around New England as far as long distance shooting goes.
