Red fox and kangaroos. Since kangaroos must be head shots it’s why we look for a more stout bullet. The 55gr Sierra gameking btsp is a good bullet for kangaroos but for foxes it’s a bit too hard. Any of the ballistic tips work well for foxes. The 55 nosler BT having the solid base goes through bone better if being used for kangaroos. They are pretty expensive here though, over 70c per bullet

Why must they be head shots? Mandated?

I use the old 52gr Speer flatbase HP in my 222R, 223, 5.6x50R and both 22-250s. I use the 40gr NBT in my 22-204 for pelt hunting the rifle ust loves them or I'd be shooting the Speer in it also.

IF, I had, a 1-9 Twist .22 Cal. H V, Rifle, the 53 V-Max would be, the Number ONE Bullet, followed by, the 55 NBT

53, 55, or 60 vmax.. going as fast as you can without pressure signs..

Ballistic tips exit, vmax usually not.

The 53 Vmax is my favorite bullet to shoot in my 9tw 22in 223AI and kills coyotes very dead.

Years ago I tried many different bullets for coyotes. Bulk remington 55's, winchester 55's, sierra 60gr, hornady 55 psp, fmj, and 55gr v-max.
I was saving hides, and really did not want exit holes. I settled on the 55gr vmax and never found a need to look for anything else. I would estimate that I have killed around 150 coyotes with that bullet. Running them at 3050 fps. Kills from 35 yards to over 600, with most being in the 250 to 225 range.

The 52 Amax which is now called 52 ELD-M w/heat shield tip is one of the best bullets I've personally ever shot in a 14tw 22-250. They not only shoot extremely well but they are so easy to load for and seem to always have such a wide sweet spot and do a fine job of killing stuff.

I've shot a lot of 40 BT's in 223's and for a little 40 grainer they do a pretty damn good job of killing stuff too.

But, the 53 Vmax, for me, is just one of those Goldilocks bullets that does everything well for me. Their only real downside is they need a 12tw or faster barrel.

Yes it’s a legal requirement. Also shots no further than 200m and minimum caliber is 222 with 50gr bullets or 204 with 40gr bullets

It’s just a national code of conduct. There’s no trophy or meat value lost with a headshot either so it’s instant kill, saving the meat from the hind quarters area. A lot are culled for pet meat, some for human consumption. I like the young bucks, very lean meat and can be gamey, just have to prepare it right. Brining and reverse sear, marinating overnight, or making jerky are good recipies. Meat is best served medium at the most as due to the low fat content it dries out very quick.

The 40 gr V-max was always the one to beat for me. My all time favorite bullet for coyotes out to 300 yds or so. At 3800 fps out of my Tikka T3 Lite, it is always game over and very rarely exits, leaving a perfect hide to take to market.

I’m still mad that I didn’t buy a bazillion of those 40 gr V-Max green tipped Zombie bullets when they were on sale and really cheap. Same as the red tipped ones, but heavily discounted.

Nosler 55gr BT's out of a HBAR was my most reliable AR15 yote killer. I've been thinking of putting on a 1-7" twist to try some 75 ELDM's this year. But this thread has me thinking maybe I'll stick with the 53 VMAX I've been shooting and use my 260 AI exclusively for the longer range yotes.

Yes have seen it happen but it’s either a bad shot or the result of using a light jacket varmint bullet. Best bullet around is still the 55gr Sierra btsp. Even if you hit low, it penetrates through and breaks the neck.

This bullet has always shot well for me, from a 12 twist all the way down to 7 twist barrels, where V-max bullets (for one reason or another) are not nearly as universal. I can't make them shoot as good as I have been able to shoot these 52's. Nothing against Hornady.

It's most likely due to the thin jackets that are character to the vmax

I have shot a lot lof yotes with the 50, 53 and 55 V-Max, 55 Blitz King, Speer TNT, Varmageddon, etc. Because you are not keeping the pelts, I'd use the 50 Varmint Grenade. If shot up close - it can really rip them up if you hit a bone - but I've never used a bullet that puts them down as quickly as this bullet - even on poorly placed shots which are a common occurrence when more than one show up at a time. Beyond 100- 150 yards, they rarely exit, expelling all the energy inside the yote. I use 8 and 9-twist barrels
