Chamber flush system build log.

Finally got to chamber a barrel with this system. My demand at home isn't as great as it is at the shop.

I need to make a couple of tweaks. First, in need to cut an opening in my chip pan so my drain has a more direct route. My connector lifts the line a bit and slows down return flow. That shouldn't be too hard. I also need to make a wooden fixture to hold my cake pan on the lathe ways in the correct position. That will be easy as well.

I also need to get a triangle file and work on my reamer screws. With a 1/4 HP pump I need just a little more flow.

My on off valve is definitely an anti-splash valve as the pump spits a bit when it first starts. That is easily controlled with the valve. The GreTan BTS also works great with no leaks.

All said I am happy with my flush at home.

@INTJ: I ordered the one you linked from Amazon. It never shipped and eventually Amazon canceled the order. My 1/8HP pump just doesn’t move enough oil. Tempted to try the one you linked again but the eBay seller has a perfect rating and good feedback. Does yours work well for you?

Thanks,
Hank

Mine works great.

The 1/4 HP coolant pump from post 382 above was delivered today. Compared to the 1/8 HP pump, it's HUGE. I'll take a side-by-side comparison when I get it set up.

For those who use some kind of ATF in their mix.... does the type matter? I've seen Ford mentioned several times... not sure why or if it matters...

I cut 3 gallons or so of vipers venom with a quart of Royal Purple I had leftover many years ago. If it did anything it added in flow around the reamer and that was kinda what I was looking for. Are you running the Astro Swiss? Is that it in the picture above? Looks like that would flow well…

No clue. I never installed a gauge. I run it as high as I can but not so much that it blows the widget off the end of the barrel :)

The only think I don't like about Astro Swiss is it has a sickly sweet smell. I guess it's supposed to be safe.

I like the stuff we use at work better. Not sure what it is, as we got it from BAT Machine--what they had left over. It is the same viscosity as Astro-Swiss but has less odor.

Really? I dont think the astro swiss has an odor at all. It does, but it's really minor. 10x less than rigid cutting oil.

No doubt much less smelly than the sulphur based stuff, but still more than the stuff at work. Monroe describes the odor as pleasant.

I don't like how it mists, and I open the garbage man door when using it.

From the MSDS:

Looks pretty safe to me... compared to most things we touch daily.

You might look into Astrocut BCL - It's a water-soluble but it's 20 percent mineral oil.

Don't really like the idea of water for my application. I was just surprised at the misting and sweet order of the Astro Swiss
