Which brass to use for Henry Side Gate .45-70Govt

I just bought a

Henry H024-4570 Side Gate .45-70Govt

I look up 45-70 brass and found there is ywo kinds. Straight tube and bottleneck. What to use.

Ok, you got me. 45-70 is a ( for practical purposes) a straight wall cartridge and has been for 100+ years.
Where did you see bottle neck as you called it?
Are you confusing 3 distinct different loads in a manual for different actions?

Winchester has great powder capacity
Starline would be my next pick for 45/70
Reloader 7 top powder pick followed by IMR 4198 with the excellent 350gr Speer FN and Hornady RN.

… more like 150 yrs, but yea… it’s a straight walled case.

If you are shooting smokeless powder capacity isn’t an issue, you have more than you can use in your lever gun no matter what you choose. (Quite frankly more than enough for T-Rex loads in a Ruger #1 if your so inclined).

All of the brands are good to use. Your pressures should be low enough that it should last a very long time… assuming you don’t oversize it, or over crimp in which case you’ll eventually split necks. If you seat a bullet and your case looks like a snake swallowing an egg you oversized.

It’s kind of like loading a giant pistol case. You will likely need to crimp for the lever gun, be gentle and find what works, enough but not too much.

Powders:

Alliant 5744
Reloader 7
IMR 3031
H or IMR 4198
