Youve found a secret combo because 99% of the folks on here have done one not just read about it. When i retire i will have still contoured just oneAll I can tell you is that just about everything I've ever read about contouring is total bull. I guess when I started machining I didn't put limitations on myself from reading forums on the internet talking about what would ruin the barrel.
Makes at least 2 of I guess. As I have said, the target tells the tale in the end.All I can tell you is that just about everything I've ever read about contouring is total bull. I think the most important part by far is proper lathe setup for what is being done.....and good eye/hand coordination.
INDEED!!! As did mine!I'm pretty darn sure my contoured barrels shoot.
Purty darn sure.
So you do this but are not willing to share details? I'm a former tool and die machinist. I know how barrel makers do this job and I think I know why I don't do it any more. I'm stopping short of what else I think but you're welcome to elaborate or not. I'm open to learn and I think a lot of others here would like to hear your process. If you have a proprietary process that you don't wanna share, just say so. Have I said anything yet for you to report to the boss here? I don't think so.All I can tell you is that just about everything I've ever read about contouring is total bull. I thought you were all about sharing. Didn't you lecture me about that recently????? Bizarre.
I was just posting my results.

And I considered my information "proprietary" as well. So save the lectures when someone else decides to communicate in a way they see fit.I make barrels for a living. So, I guess I consider my processes "proprietary". I don't think I have to explain that.

No, I'm the guy that you completely missed the point of my posts. In fact, your take on the subject was exactly 180 degrees off from my intent.Aren't you the guy who was not sharing loads in a reloading forum because he protecting himself from a run on his favorite powder? Haha. Seriously. Wow.
Yah. That's exactly the same thing.

nice job on the barrel urban- it appears you work cheap.. I do remember when you were on here asking for lots of info from guys who you are now in competition with. Most of them shared their info with you. Now that the shoes on the other foot though………..I make barrels for a living. So, I guess I consider my processes "proprietary". Yep,. got the t shirt, hahaha. And then did it again...just because I loathe myself.I remember the first and last re contour I did. I bought a green mountain straight and tapered to a sendero-ish.
If I made 12 cents an hour for my efforts it would have been cheaper to buy a bartlein. The amount of grit generated after polishing the chatter was a deal breaker.
It would take a hydraulic follow to make it even semi doable for profit.
Wilson blanks are $185.....that's what id be looking for.
