That's because it only grows in Hawai'i, but can only be harvested from dead (fallen) trees. So, Koa is one of the most expensive woods in the world, and perhaps the rarest.I have been using it for knife scales for about 15 years. But it is getting really overpriced like a like of wood is these days.
