STOCK FINISH- need help

I Had a stock made out of Hawaiian Koa wood and was told to put Watco danish oil on it. If I let it soak in for 72 hrs I could put clear coat over it.Well I had a guy try a piece of same wood w/oil, and it got some bubbles in it. He sanded it, tried it again and same thing.
My question is what can I use on this stock to get it looking like the wet clear coat look? Varathane, polycrylic? I need some help here in finishing my stock. Thanks, Kenny

You also have to soak koa with acetone to just dry the surface before applying a urethane finish.

You might end up staying with the oil finishs if that acetone dont remove the oil, that was bad advise if you told them you was using an auto clear, automotive finish does not penatrate much at all, [ look around at the cars that the clear is peeling off ] You want no oil unless you are going to use a oil finish like Tru Oil or a dozen others like it. ed

There is a water thin clear urethane called Permalyn. There is a "sealer" and also a "finish". You can seal the wood with 2 coats of sealer and the clear coat should stick to that if you rough it a bit first with 320 grit paper.

I went with clear coat (cross fire) cause theres a big thread on it here somewhere about how good it is. I think it was Preacher that had a picture of one of his guns he put it on and it looked great and is not suppost to yellow like urathanes.
