AR15 .223 barrel question

The barrel nut threads and the front face take the load.
You could probably, using a true thermal fit, hold the barrel extension to the receiver with Duct Tape :)
The locking lugs hold the bolt to the extension. Firing force is exerted there.
Yes, I understand that the tension of the threads holds the extension tight to the front face of the nose.
Which many (but not all) lap flat and square.
Half the threaded nose doesn't even touch the extension.
The handguard takes the bending moment and places it at the nose and front of the receiver.

The combined assembly, with a heavy walled receiver, or a custom receiver, of Nut (internal or external) ,extension, has more support than a thin walled receiver for heavy barrel(4 to 5 pounds) applications.

26-28" I'd go white oak armament

They have a lot of match shooters and they have found that barrels in that in that length range are nicer to the brass with a +2" gas port. White oak has those gas tubes too, they were like $20...

Sounds like a fun build; what's your plans? Plinking, target long range, short range bench, etc.
From what I understand, the longest finished barrel for an AR in .223 you can currently get from White Oak is a 24" pipe.

All of my AR15 (I have built and own a total of 4 complete rifles) have 26" Heavy varmint weight barrels. 3 of then are chambered in .223 and the 4th is .204 Ruger. I have always purchased my 26" pipes from WOA but currently they only source/sell 24" barrels in these calibers. I have been giving serious thought to this company Dedicated Technology for another .204 Ruger 26" this time a Shilen Select Match barrel.

Yea that may be the case now, sorry. Maybe a call would provide some insight to whether they'll do another run of longer barrels.
