Sporter contour accuracy potential?

Bill, you are cheating by bringing a 30 BR into the discussion! Hee Hee!

I have Remington Sporters that Shoot very well, have a bunch of factory take off barrels that do not shoot that well. I have had a few Ultra lights, heavier the caliber, the harder they are to tune to 3/8"-1/2" groups, usually a muzzle break with some heft to it fixes the problem.

On an expensive build, I do not like to roll the dice.

Ask some of the better gun builders on this site what barrel size they would recommend for them to give you an accuracy guarantee,

Oh yea, I'm sorry Bro I didn't mean to steel the thunder. BTW, I do have a V2 E C tuner on that rifle.

Maybe some members can help me out with this. I currently shoot a 6mm AI 26" .800" at the muzzle, it's wonderfully accurate and it's a great coyote, antelope and deer round. I'm tired of carrying a heavy gun and want to build a lighter rifle to carry in the same round. My question is, I want a 24" #3 contour as recommended by a reputable barrel maker. I don't plan on shooting long strings, in real field use.....maybe 2-3 shots on a pack of coyotes. What is the accuracy potential of a lighter contour barrel compared to a heavy varmint or similar?
Whose #3 contour are you looking at? There is a lot of difference in a Bartlein and a Krieger #3 contour.

IMO opinion you are ovethinking the accuracy part of the equation - what you should be most concerned with is a barrel / load combo that will put 3 shots into 1 inch or less at 100 yards and that they do it consistently.

For the purposes you mentioned you will not be giving up anything by going to a lighter sporter contour, likely you will be gaining because of the handiness and lighter feel of the rifle.

Spend the money and get a top brand barrel ( Brux, Bartlien, Kreiger, Hart, Shilen ect.

and in the context of the thread how does it do ant 500 yards hunting.
me thinks several post are not even close to context
Since most of my shots are within @ 150 yds. max. I have not had a chance to try it at 500 yds. but then again it was purposely built for close range in the swamp.
