Montana Gold Bullets? Alternatives?

Are they still in business? I know they have a web sight and I have an account but even logged in there is no way to contact anyone…

I have one rifle I really like, a 357 R92 Rossi lever action (shoot silhouette) that LOVES their 125gr JHP .38 cal bullets… I used to buy them by the case (3000). I have tried every other bullet I can readily get my hands on and nothing shoots as well as them. I don’t know if it’s the shape or what.

Anyone?

Hornady HAP
No makey in .38 caliber… also same profile as the XTP which, the XTP-FP are a close second…. (Don’t know why the FP fly better out of a rifle than the regular XTP but they do)

The Montana Gold are a rounded ogive, most 38 cal bullets have that triangle shape like the XTP. :)

I recently tried some Precision Delta and they seemed to be good.

In the past I tried ZERO bullet and was disappointed in the diameter control. 1 to 2 thou larger than they should be.

I've used 10s of thousands of Montana Gold.

After what they pulled following Sandy Hook, they never saw another dime from me.
Is that when they increased prices on existing/placed orders and quit making their 55 grain .223 bullets?

Yes. Orderes that had been placed and paid for months in advance. They gave you the option to pay more or cancel the order.

Not sure about the 55FMJ part.

I like the Montana Gold 130 grain 38 Super bullet because it is the same or the closest to the original round nose bullet. I bought a case of them but now I am getting low. Every time I go to their site "Out of Stock."
I did buy some Hornady 125 HAP to play with.

I'm also a big fan of those Montana Gold 125gr bullets. I've loaded them in everything from mild .38 Spl loads, all the way up to full power .357 Mag, with very satisfying results in every case. Not sure what's up with the company right now, and I really can't recommend a solid alternative, unfortunately....

I got tired of waiting for Montana Gold to have anything in stock and moved on to Blue Bullets. I have shot quite a few 9mm Major out of my CZ Czechmate and very happy with the results (115gr at 1410fps). I have some for my .357's now but haven't loaded any yet. They do have 50 round sample packs if you want to try them.

Those are the ones… try fly so good out of this one rifle, 2MOA at 100 with iron sights…. Everything else I have tried in it over the years is 3+ MOA.

Didn’t see that number on their sight? Will call tomorrow. Thanks!
I didn't visit their web site.
When I saw that you were unable to contact them, I Googled "contact info Montana Gold" The phone number was actually from the City of Kalispell, MT (their home town), Chamber of Commerce web site.

If we had PC's and Google when I was growing up, "I could have been a contender" ;)

I am a huge fan as well I will miss these!

Zero bullets..
That is hillarious... so, the 158gr that all my rifles LOVE I get from NE Reloading... Have talked to them before when they ran out online but still had some in their store. They wouldn't tell me where they get them from but that they literally buy them by the ton. That is them... LOL. I have tried their 125gr JHP and SP in this rossi and they don't shoot as well as the Montana Gold. I have 1000 of there JHP 115gr 9mm I will start loading this summer when my bucket of XTP runs out. They are a good looking bullet. Thanks! :)

All my experience with pistol style bullets is with 38 Special and 357 magnum revolvers.

The 125 Hornady XTP is extremely accurate with 231 in my revolvers.

If you're seeking a lead alternative, I've used 125 Oregon Trail laser cast bullets in the past. Also, very accurate at modest velocities with 231 powder.
