Savage 6BR build question.

My friends keep repeatedly tell me I need to move off the 223 and build a 6BR.
I understand their reasoning and have seen their results with 6BR and 6 Dasher so I fight with myself to make the move.

I have 2 Savage actions I can build with. A model 10 Top Bolt Release with a stagger feed blind magazine or a model 11 Bottom Bolt Release with DBM. The problem I an facing is how to deal with a magazine for either of these using the 6BR. This is about the only issue I find that is preventing me from this build upgrade.

Suggestions, links, any help?

Question #1, Why do You need a magazine? If I had some need for a magazine, I’d suggest going with a chambering designed to be used in a magazine. That’s not straight, short body and steep shoulder angle. Of course, it can be done, and has been done, but it is more trouble than I am willing to go to. I won’t be running around doing PRS, so no magazines needed for Me.

Hopefully, it obvious, This is Just My Opinion :)

edit: But if a magazine is really required, look at the 6mmGT, which I believe was designed for such a purpose.

As stated in original post the actions I am looking to use are both Savage and are designed to be used with a magazine. So then I will ask, how do you feed a cartridge into the chamber if the action was not made for single shot? So no I do not NEED a magazine but the actions were meant to be used with one.

Your last statement is correct and to answer your question just lay the cartridge on the follower and close the bolt home.

All of My actions have a Single Shot Follower that fits into the Magazine cut out after it is removed. Followers can be obtained from Sharp Shooter Supply and other sources.

Single feed. Single shot loading ramp.
When the 6 BR first came out, the worry was scaring that beautiful (expensive) brass so the "single feed" was the way to go.
Pull the ejector pin and spring and the case stays on the bolt head till YOU pick it off.
If the ejector pin stays in place, it (the spring) can be modified (shortened) so the case just kind flops over and out of the action. No hunting for fired brass in the tall grass.
ALL of my Savage actions are either single shot from the factory OR modified with single shot adaptors. No chasing brass ever.

This is what I have learned since posing this question here.
I asked this same question previously on a couple other forums and not once was I given this information. Which I knew there was an answer I just needed to find the right place to ask the question.

I have that site now bookmarked!
The single shot adapters have always been an available option.

May be but no one that I asked would relay that information. Even on the Savage Forum or The High Road forum. Then everyone I am shooting with are all using Remington type actions or chassis systems.

Not going to reply to that other than I have 2 - 6XC’s and will be getting more and JMO he made a mistake.
That is the best part about sporting activities that require equipment. Not everyone uses the same things or agrees which is best. Be it shooting, bowling, golf, pool, darts or a whole host of other activities. In this case I personally know my mentor and have witnessed his journey with the XC.

There is absolutely nobody that could talk me out of a standard 6BR Norma. Decide on what bullet you intend to shoot, purchase a barrel in the twist you need work with such bullet. Then prepare for sore grin muscles!

I have 2, both built by Fred @ sharp shooter supply, 1-10 twist for up to 85 grain, and a 1-8 for 95 grain Bib BTHP's. Both shoot under .250 moa.

I would went with the 108 or 105 class of bullets, it will shoot in the high ones as the 95's do when I do my part. But Randy's 95 HPBT hit that just over 3000 fps accuracy node without stomping the guts out of it, the 108's have nearly the BC, and you have to stomp the guts outa the brass just get to 3000.

Mine are both Savage Axis actions, and feed perfect with the Fred's single shot adapter. But I feed the varmint rifle single shot with the factory 243 magazine in it. It will feed from the magazine, but not smoothly, I have to kinda short stroke it, so I use both single feed, without the ejector installed.

I have had 6mm AI, 6x47L, 243, none will shoot better. But the only reason I would chamber for a different cartridge, if I flat out had to have one that feeds smoothly from a magazine!
