AR Comp for 6.5 Grendel?

Burned through the last of the 8208... and it's still unobtainium (or I haven't been fast enough).

Alliant has the shittiest load data online I've ever seen.
I've got AR Comp which looks to be about the right speed- who's using it with 123 class bullets, help with data?

120 Sierra Prohunters & 120 Matchkings , its the only powder I have ever used in my daughters frankengun. 120 Prohunters slay whitetails like they were struck from on high, 120 Matchkings shoot 5 into a half in most of the time, so do the Prohunters, running 2500 or so from her 24" Satern barreled AR. Data I have puts max at 28.0 , reduce and work up. Start at 25 and work up Max at 28.0, should find a nice resting place around 26.5 or so.

Sorry , I was distracted earlier. This was printed in a Shooting Times magazine a few years ago.

Sierra has what you are looking for

I agree on the Alliant load data, it's the worst in the industry in my opinion. The AR Comp works great in my Grendel though. The sweet spot in my rifle is 28.4

None of Sierra's loads include AR-Comp as far as I can see!

(This was a considerable frustration to me when my edition VI updated manual eventually arrived as not only is this powder not included, but being in the UK, few of those which are tested are available here thanks to 'REACH' and other factors. Taking the 123gn table for instance, only Ramshot Exterminator and TAC plus Alliant Re10x are available to us. Lovex S060 can usually be substituted for Accurate XMR-2015 with suitable care taken in load work-ups, but few people know that and Lovex powders have a limited distribution across the country. So, that's three, maybe four, powders out of the 16 listed in the table. Where, oh where, are Vihtavuori grades Sierra? In fact across Edition VI, Viht has largely disappeared and doesn't show at all in recently introduced cartridges.)

my mistake, brain fart I read AR Comp in the OP and went looking for Power Pro Varmint. I got the load data I use off the 6.5 Grendel Forum's reload section but was looking for something official

I load for 6 Grendel AR’s from 18-24”, and every one has a load using AR Comp in the 27-27.4 range with 120-123gr bullets that shoot very accurately, with good velocity and low SD’s in either Hornady or Lapua brass. There are other powders that may yield more velocity, with some sacrifice to temp stability, but Comp is my pick for an all around powder for 6.5 Grendel.

I bought a couple of tins of AR-Comp with the Grendel in mind when some actually reached our shores (UK) a couple of years ago. I've used it in 223 Rem with the 77gn SMK and been much impressed, but Covid restrictions put a crimp into my Grendel load development, which I'm hoping to resume next year. So, I'll bear your loads in mind. Thank you sir!

AR-Comp is an incredible powder for anything it works in.

It's one of those magical powders like 8208/H4350 that just always do an amazing job. I use it primarily to shoot 80g SMK's from my AR @ 2900 FPS. Incredible speed and accuracy.

I honestly believe that Alliant could have chosen a better name for it. Yes, that's a lame excuse but I've run into LR and BR people who as soon as they see anything with "AR" in it, it's nope, not in my orbit. Too bad. Their loss. I've been using the stuff ever since I read the article about it here on the Daily Bulletin back in 2011.

If they had simply replaced the "A" with a "B", people here would still be singing praises to its name. ;)

I think you hit the nail on the head. I must admit I would have never tried it in my 6 BR probably based on the name had it not been for @urbanrifleman . It is my best powder with 65-75 gr bullets. Right now I'm trying to develop loads with N-135 and N-140 so I can rid myself of Alliant powder. It just is to hard to source. Great powder but if you can't find any then it isn't much good. The VV powders are easy for me to source.

Yes, just so. I asked the MD of our joint Alliant/Hodgdon importer / distributor if / when we were going to get it in the UK after I first saw it on the Accurate Shooter Bulletin, but was fobbed off with a load of (inaccurate) excuses about CE certification. That's how things stayed until the EU's REACH directive robbed us of most Hodgdon and IMR powders when the importer suddenly started pushing Alliant much more vigorously and AR-Comp magically appeared. It turned out that the 'AR' name was the probable reason for its earlier no-show as few people in Europe shoot ARs.

Thanks for the feedback.
I prefer the temp insensitive powders (like 8208) but good to hear the AR Comp will get 'er done.
