Next step up from Sightron glass for low light

4.5x30 Trijicon TenMile $1056.00 at eurooptic
I just saw this and one of the 4-24 models for 819. was looking at reviews. I hear they may be better than sightron and that the 4.5-30 model with the 34 mm tube is very good in low light. But it is rather bigger than i wanted but i guess its gonna be what its gonna be.

I had the 5x50 tenmile and it was bright... almost too bright on sunny days, Had to dial it down but I didn't know about covering the objective at the time

power is good to have sometimes if your looking around, and the detail is good on this scope

I recently purchased a S&B Klassik in 3-12 after losing my Zenith to my son. They seem to have the low light thing figured out pretty well. It’s hard to believe until you get behind one. I see they make a 4-16 in the Klassik line far south of your budget, just not sure if 16x will do it for you. Good luck in your search. My son says “it’s like they put a light in their for ya”

The Atlon Ares ETR that is on my predator rifle is really good for the price($1000 +_-). I don't own any Sightron scopes at the moment but I recall them being on the dark side. This is a few years back before the ED glass but solid scopes for sure. The Trjicon Ten Mile is big and heavy but is better that its price point.

The Leupold VX5 and VX6 lines are good in low light to my eyes. I'm no optic snob, but compared to my Sightron STAC 3-16×42, my VX5 3-15×44 is much brighter.

Biggest issue is no FFP, and poor reticle choices, but for a hunting rifle I think they are good.

That particular Trijicon scope is the best I’ve ever used in low light. The view is brighter than what your naked eyes can see. And the glass in normal lighting is second to none.

I have a Sightron SIII 10-50x60mm and it does not even compare to the Trijicon. The Trijicon quite noticeably outperforms NightForce NXS in low light as well.

I have to admit, you do have the skinny on glass. I always like your evaluations.

My Razor 3 is bright but is not good in heavy mirage. How’s the 4.5-30 TTM?

It actually cuts moderate mirage fairly well compared to other scopes but not much of anything is good on high power levels in ‘heavy’ mirage.
I see Tenabraex has been making ARD’s for Razor 2’s They have one for the RZR3 as well.
Are they significant?

Consider ED glass for any scope where low light is a requirement.

Not every lens in a scope that says ED will be ED though. Usually just the objective.
ED will add to the cost but is worth the search.

Tract optics is new with some models that have ED glass. https://tractoptics.com/riflescopes
NF Comp 15-55 has ED as does the Kahles 10-50 MOAK and Sightron SvSS line

March has models with ED and Super HD though they are likely not ideal for the OPs purposes.

Look into German hunting optics. It's legal to hunt before dawn in Europe and there are several German & Austrian scopes that "focus" on low light.

I honestly dislike FFP. I never use reticle to range or do holdovers except in my wsm when going for 1 mile. And if i do low power the reticle disappears in most.
I like the tenmile for the price eurooptic has it for right now but it is bigger and heavier than id like. I do like tract toric but just about everything these days is 30 ounces. But maybe i’ll put it on my current sightron gun and put the sightron on the new build since its like 26 oz and doesnt quite have the elevation to get me to a mile

Thanks for the suggestions

Tenebraex are the best scope caps in the business. Adjustable and very robust. Nice added bonus if a scope comes with them. About $130 or so for a set if you buy them separately.

Yeah the one downside to any of the big 34mm tube scopes with higher magnification levels like the Trijicon is the weight. Most come in around 2.5 lbs.

The Vortex Razor scopes are by far the worst when it comes to weight. I think they make the scope body out of lead and fill any empty space in the tube with heavy sand. Lol

To update i got the trijicon tenmile in 4-24x50 that euro optic had on sale for 899$. Big disappointment. Its darker and seemingly less clear at lower light than my athlon midas btr gen 2 at same powers, and that scope is several hundred cheaper. So I will be returning the tenmile hopefully. To think they want 1500$ normally for it is absurd, its a nice scope physically, but i would expect alot more out of the glass. Shame too cuz it has all the features i like and 26 oz which is as heavy as i wanted to put on this gun. Now i need to think about spending more for a tract toric uhd 4-20 maybe or spend less and get another athlon or just stick with another sightron
