New Area 419 ZERO M-series sizing die

No matter if the die is a success or not, I am fascinated with AREA 419's ingenuity and craftsmanship. It takes special people in this world to be on the front line of innovation and design, regardless of the industry that you are in.

While i don't think I NEED this die, I am eager to try it and see what it does/doesn't do.
AMEN! If I could stand to live in Ohio I'd get a job there. If they'd take me! :)

I've been using Neil Jones custom dies for years. They are custom made to your chamber. Micrometer headspace and size base to your chamber dimensions.
I have a couple of sets of Neil Jones dies, they are awesome. Neils dies are also spendy, if I needed another custom die, I would not hesitate to call him again.
I hope the folks making these dies do well for themselves. It’s good for all of us to have options with high end equipment.

I agree . Neil is a one man operation and 85 years old. It's nice to have options from Lee to Area 419. Don't knock them just because they are not for you. Be glad you have choices.

So, what is the material used to make the sizing sleeve? Rc to what number?
Any accommodations for thinner, neck turned brass? What about sleeves to work with over/ under size brass? How long do you think the thread for HS adj. will hold up?

seriously if I were going to spend that kind of money I would opt for a custom made die cut for my rifles chamber. Of course I use off the shelf barrels so that option is unnecessary anyway
Seems like you could send your sizing reamer to 419 and have them make a die with it.

Surprised this hasn’t sparked the debate about whether or not the shell holders should have good contact with the die. I’m definitely in the yes it should camp.

I’m probably sticking with the Redding comp shell holders for now and a small base if needed from time to time. Right now I can just say they don’t offer dies in my chamberings for an excuse.

We won't be cutting with anyone else's reamer, but we will make the sizing sleeves available uncut, just piloted in various calibers, so a person can sink their own reamer to a print and have one made with their reamer.

This lets people use their own cutting tools and keeps our shop moving cleanly.

If you’ve never had a product from Area 419 you should own one before reviewing their stuff.

The stuff they make is machined, finished and functions perfect. Yeah I know lots of companies do that but their stuff is good.

I’d love to own the press and dies but it’s over budget for me.

From what I saw in the video, most of what this setup will do can be achieved with a custom die with more tinkering and tuning to your setup. Ease of use is a big thing these days.

Not trying to be negative - just wanting to clarify.

I'm using Forster sizing dies now with their standard sizing button.
How would the Zero sizing die improve the consistency of shoulder set back? How does it improve the roundness of the inside of the neck

Love the innovation. But rejecting the decades-long 7/8 press standard seems an iffy proposition.

That issue aside, seems to me the biggest question will be the actual numbers. Using premium brass - say Alpha, Lapua, or Peterson - what will a sized case from an M-Series die give us, both in absolute terms and in repeatability/consistency, compared to, say, a Redding S-Series die? Or a semi-custom die like a Harrell's?

There's an obvious market for high-end, premium shooting products. But those that succeed usually have a demonstrable edge over their less expensive counterparts. A lot of guys have paid a thousand bucks for an FX120i scale and AutoTrickler combination.

Will definitely be watching the M-Series with interest. For me it comes down to how much of the M-Series is essentially cosmetic versus how much is meaningful.

EDIT: @jelenko posted while I was writing, and said it better than I did!
