Can on Contender

I recently got permission to pick up my suppressor that I bought almost a year ago and I am thinking about what I can put it on. I was thinking it might be really nice on a contender but I don't have a threaded barrel. Of course the logical next step is to buy one. I was thinking a 14" Grendel which would be legal for our "Alternative Weapons Season".
Anybody have any experience, pro or con, with a can on a contender?
It is an AB Raptor if that matters.
Thanks!
edit: I have other guns it works fine on, just thinking about what else.

You can always use another Contender barrel........just saying'...............would love to see a pic of that rig when you get it done.

Just wondering, do you mean you applied for a permit a year ago, and just now received it?
Yes. Process is you have to buy the suppressor, have it shipped to the FFL, apply and pay $200 to the feds. Then they tell you if you can go pick it up. I got my email and picked up last week. I had applied on March 17'th so I exaggerated a bit but it is annoying to have $1300 sitting in a safe you can't touch.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it.
Of course in New York if you had a suppressor I think you get executed immediately.
Enjoy the quiet.

Well, seeing that you're from Missouri also, I'd suggest that you do it. I run a silencerco Omega on my 13" 7-30 waters encore pistol for alternative season. It's fantastic and a lot of fun to shoot. If you were to run something smaller like a 6.5 grendel I'm sure it would be a pleasure to handle. I've run that setup also with a 308 14" barrel, and it was no trouble at all. The can takes all the rear bite out of the pistol setup. I highly recommend it. MGM mages a real nice barrel for your purposes

Thanks for the reply. I was leaning toward Grendel because we already have an AR so I have most of the necessary ingredients to load it.
Any experience with SSK barrels? I found one that seems to be a very reasonable price but I haven't ever seen one in person.

Any of the custom makers of TC barrels make good ones.

I am in the process of getting all of my Contender and Encore barrels threaded so that I can use cans on them. I will be purchasing a Hyperion K just for use on the handgun barrels.

I only have one bolt gun that isn't threaded and it is the first .22 I ever owned (Marlin 25). Other than that, every other rifle I have is threaded for use of a suppressor.

I’m and SSK addict!!!! I have 15 SSK barrels and they are great barrels. Very accurate barrels. Many years ago I stopped at SSK to buy a barrel. JD said come on let’s go shoot this. Contender 45 ACP suppressed carbine rifle. You could hear the hammer drop and bullet strike. Another visit shot a Marlin lever action suppressed rifle chambered in 45-70 Whisper.

I am following, because this would fit my "silent but deadly" approach to tree squirrel suburban farm fox squirrel hunting. Maybe a 22 can on a Super 14 with a 2-6 scope. Slip in on permission to woodlots, leave with a game bag full of Mepps tails and no one the wiser.

I have a another Marlin model 25 that I had cut down and threaded. I take it up into the box stands that we hunt deer out of. I have shot squirrels while deer were at the feeder. They look over as the squirrel hits the ground, but don't spook as long as I cycle the bolt quietly.

For some reason I have an itch for a 16-18" carbine barrel in .300 BO. Figure combined with my Gemtech Sandstorm Ti can it should make a dandy little deer carbine.
I have a 16.5” carbine barrel on mine in 357 Max. It’s definitely short and easy to get around even with a can attached.
Also a 300 blackout barrel, but it’s only 10” for pistol use, it’s like a big pellet gun with subs.

I SBR'd my Contender in 2007 long before pistol braces were dreamt of. Mostly for shooting my suppressed pistol length barrels on a shouldered platform.
