22bra, 22gt or 22dasher

Looking into doing a new build for those slightly longer fields for hunting coyotes. Im thinking of going 22bra though the 22gt and dasher did cross my mind. I currently have a 6bra and love the ease and simplicity of the round and pure accuracy.

Build should be in the area of this;

- falkor 7even action
- Ibi 26” carbon 1:7 twist
- tt diamond flat
- manners lrh
- Hawkins m5 hunter dbm

Any feedback as far as caliber would be appreciated! Thank you.

How long are those “slightly longer fields?” And how bad do you want to kill them? Wind and yardage eats up cartridge capability in a hurry. If you’re looking at 400 yards plus I’d be looking for something with a bit more horsepower such as 22 Creedmoor or 22-250 Improved or possibly a 22-6mm. I’m kinda agreeing with Dave. A really well gunsmithed 22-250 is a viable option.

I'm shooting both Bartlein 1:7.5 22BR and 22GT on TL3's... both are accurate but man the 22BR shoots crazy small groups with little effort with 4166 and 90smk at 3030.... 22GT took a lot more effort, powders, bullets to find a equally accurate load but 85.5 and N550 are shooting lights out at 3140.

I have a 1:7 Mullerworks and a 1:7.5 Bartlein...things got way more consistent with both the 22BR and 22GT going to 7.5 twist from 7 twist, and getting those RPM down.... I'm down around 290,000rpm with 7.5 vs up around 320,000 rpm with 7 twist

Im definitely more keen on the 22bra just due to the straight up accurate and easy tuning of the br’s. It’s exactly what made me fall in love with my last 2 6bra’s. Just crazy east to load for!!

So you recommend going to the 7.5 instead of the 7? I was told .219 bore and 7 twist a bunch but definitely open here

Everything is within 600 yards. Majority are 250 and in which is where I use my 20 tactical, but just wanted more umph and an excuse to build another rifle for those fields that are 300-550/600 kind of thing. I have a few different 6mm options that would work if the ranges got longer then that

I have 3 22BR and 3 22GT barrels....7 and 7.5 twist.... shit was inconsistent and harder to tune the 7 twists...doing the math I was up in thst 312,000- 320,000 rpm range....going up to 7.5 twist barrels....everything was consistent, easy to tune, wide nodes....noticeable difference for me... and my rpm are under 300,000 now..

I'm extremely happy with my 22BR and 22GT Bartlein 1:7.5's..

Here 22GT OCW 85.5 and 90smk N550

Thank you! I will look at the 7.5 twists instead then. Thank you. Do you prefer one over the other?

22 bra is the only reamer I don't have that I really want. I want that reamer. I spoke to JGS and they sent me a drawing. Just need to order it.

22xc is badass. Truly the easy button. People are really loving it.

I can't imagine needing a 7 twist for any of these. 8 twist is plenty.

Somebody has the say it......

22br and 22brx are good choices. Manson had a 20 and 22brx on the shelf last time i got a reamer. I say had..

22 PRC sounds about right...

Seriously though, I was looking at the same cartridges 2yrs ago and built a 10T 22 Creed instead. It's plenty accurate. During load work, the worst load was still under 2" at 400yds with 64gn TMK's.

If I ever get time, I'm going to chamber an 8twist for it and try some 75 eld-m's. The wind really gets a hold of the lighter bullets past a few hundred yds.

I had Manson make my custom 22BR reamer. My first 22BR was the standard .060 FB then I had a .100fb....I spec'd my custom reamer with .130fb to shoot the heavies without being down in the case eating up capacity...no turn neck with 0.002 clearance per side. Its a laser

I throat to 170 fb for the 88 Eldm. I agree with your assessment.

Coyote hunting means loosing brass.

22/250 AI has been tops on my list for 30 years and 55's at 4050 fps shooting bug holes with the coolest buring powder made, AA2700 does not suck. Same powder, 60g Bergers and V max with 12T shoots a bug hole at 3700+ fps.

I would be tempted to go 22 XC, but nothing on a 47 case due to NON availability of brass. 22 Creed is running with the 22/250 AI.

In our Ca. Predator Calling Club, there were at least a dozen guys running the 22/250 AI, and sub 1/2" groups at 200 yds with 55's were the norm with a variety of powders.

I always fire formed brass while killing coyotes, 55's at 3850 fps, sub 1/2" groups.

Our shots were 350 yds and under as a norm, and the flat shooting trajectory of the 55's at 4050 fps kept us from unzipping yotes between 250-325 yds. There is NO time to pull out a range finder, adjust knobs for distance and windage. Shooting is usually split seconds between sighting a coyote and pulling the trigger.

In a 22/250 AI, 75g A max at 3450 is real world with H4350, but this is not my cup of tea.

Also, for a varmint hunter, a 80g Sierra bltiz bt would be awesome in a 6 XC. We killed a lot of coyotes in Az with the 80g Blitz, loudest plop sound I have ever heard on a coyote with DRT results shot in the stomach, massive hydrostatic shock, 243 Win, Short freebore 12T barrels at 3400 fps with IMR 4064, same in the 6 Rem at 3500 fps.

I would like to have two cases of R#23 and 16, but it is not to be had, neither is AR comp. AA4350, H4350 is available.

I don't know if a 6mm 75g V max would detonate on a coyote hip or shoulder or not. 87g V max at 3400 would be a great coyote round.

My fear is that as distances increase, so does the case for spinners and nippers with heavy 22 caliber bullets. When you skin the britches off a coyote, there is not much there. You can never count on a perfect shot on a standing coyote, you will not shoot many if you do, trotting, running, walking shots are common.
