Painting my house

My wife hired my nephew to paint our house and it's been a fiasco renting a paint sprayer from Home Depot. Either the sprayers aren't working and the mechanic is out on leave or other sprayers are days overdue! This should have been done by last Friday if I had the sprayer.

Other rental places don't have sprayers and refer me to HD. It a big 2 story house but doable in 2 days but looks like I may have to get out the rollers.

My other post about falling off the ladder was when I was removing some lights to get ready for painting (feeling a lot better now).

We had a chance to get a professional but she wanted to help out the nephew with the job but it's wearing on my nerves. I don't want to reload during this down time so I don't screw something up.

Just wanted to rant and get this off my chest. Thanks for looking if you did, if not no harm no foul.

i used to help my dad paint houses(exterior) when i was a teenager. alot of hand scraping back then off the extension ladder. we used brushs and rollers. I havent seen anybody paint a house around here for years. the method now around here is some form of siding. Many with housewrap - help with utilities— its like roofs around here - even expensive houses going to metal. i want a shingle roof on my place when it needs it— i think anyway— Hmmmmm.

Why dont you hire somebody to side that place— cant take it with you.

Stucco or brick is in the majority around here not that there's not other houses with siding. I prefer brick myself and the only person I who I'd let do my brickwork was my dad. He was a master bricklayer and I loved to see him work. I'm sorry I never learned from him :(.

that would have been quite a skil to have for sure.

As a 17 year Boatswains Mate who has directly applied acres of paint, ( not an exaggeration), I can attest to the fact that preparation is the most important, most overlooked, and most onerous part of the process.
I still paint. I bought a Honda pressure washer, a Graco airless sprayer, a selection of poles/scrapers/sanders, and all of the equipment I knew I needed. I came out well under any bids given.
That doesn't reduce the labor at all. This is a case of "getting out what you put in".
Good luck with your project!

2 weeks ago my next door neighbor wanted to borrow my ladders he said he bought a spray rig at home depot and was going to paint his house...he brought the ladders back today and I told him that I may want to borrow his spray rig ....too late he said that he took it back to home depot for a refund.....what did you tell them I asked he said that the sprayer was a piece of crap and kept clogging ........go figure.....how does a store stay in business if everyone brought their stuff back

Pal had the same issue with sprayers, we said screw it, bought the harbor freight sprayer, dang that machine does a sweet good job. For 200$ he doesn't have the rental sprayer problems of prior users failing on the job.
$200.00? It was gonna cost me more to rent for 2 days...may have to consider this.

I used a GRACO and it was miserable the whole time I used it. As long as it kept primed I was good, it it lost prime I had to pull the hose out and pour paint in the hose. The out side got rolled and brushed which kept over spray off my stained wrap around porch anyway.

A lady from the worlds oldest profession was sitting at a hotel bar, when a well dressed gentleman sat down beside her. After a few drinks the lady said to the gentleman " I'll do anything you want for $400" The gentleman got out $400 and laid it on the bar in front of her and said "paint my house"!
