A&D FX120i? Yes or no

Its time for me to upgrade my reloading scale. It seems the standard for which all others are compared to is the FX120i. I am prepared to cough up the coin. I just want to ask if there's anything else out there on the market that I am not aware of that can compete with this scale?

My main goal here is repeatability. I am not so much concerned with the .02grn resolution (Though it will be nice). My current setup does not produce repeatable results. I can produce very good SD's with my 0.10grn scale, but one loading to the next can produce 30-40FPS swings and take me in and out of my pressure nodes.

I have several lower-cost digital scales ( under 100$) and I am not satisfied with my repeatability.

This is what brings my setup into question: I loaded a OCW test this past saturday. I was in the process of marking all my brass with charge weights when someone knocked on my front door. 5 minutes later, I returned to find that my daughter had lovingly re-arranged all my cartridges to her liking. Most of which had not been labeled. Later that night, I re-loaded the same OCW test with all the same components. After shooting this, I compared the few pieces that I labeled from the first loading, to the same charge weights from the 2nd loading, and my velocity results were very different. 40 FPS different. One load had an SD of 10.1, the other was 1.7. tthe only thing separating these identical loads, was the time at which they were loaded on the same day.

Ive always just dealt with the velocity swings on match morning, but adjusting my data is getting old and its time to up my game.

Im shooting PRS, Ranges at my matches have reached out to 1200 yds.

Target are respectively not usually bigger than 3-4 MOA for a given range. sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger.

Magneto speed.
If you can maintain MV SD of 15, no need to change anything.
Use H4350 or RL26 if you can find any

To verify, plug your input data in JBM ballistics and enter MV +- 30 fps or so and check +- in/MOA/Mil at your target distance

Here is an example

Humidity and temperature at your reloading bench for each of the two tests?
I live in south florida, humidity in my shop is probably stupid high compared to most other people. Nothing i can do about it though. i dont leave my powders out at any time with lids off, ever, and they all stay in the same enclosed cabinet.

And the day in question, i did not have any severe weather changes between loadings.

I don't know how fast powder will absorb moisture from the air but an hour or two exposed and the moisture content could be climbing from 51 to 54% in the can towards a room humidity over 60 to 65%.

I dont disagree, but im not leaving my cans open. It takes me 15-20 minutes to load a 20 round OCW. PLus my powder never leaves its 1 lb bottle. i use a bottle adaptor on top of my powder measure.

Lets not get side tracked here. Were not debating humidity. Im asking about scales that can compete with the FX-120i.

I am committed to replacing my current setup, and I am relatively sure that it will be with the FX-120i. Unless there are other products on the market that I am not aware of with equal clout proven record that A&D has.

It's hard to go wrong with an A&D FX120i. For many of us, it's on the short list of things we'd have to replace if we were forced to set up a new loading bench.

That said, I'd venture that your SD results are not because your present 0.1gr resolution is inadequate. Something else is going on.

All of which is to say... you could upgrade to the A&D and find your results still not to your liking.

Buy the A&D you will not regret it. In short I have reloaded for 40 odd years and during that time have tried nearly all options commonly used, including multiple laboratory grade scales. I could always make whatever I had work. Then about 3 years ago I bought and A&D and ATV3 setup.... it changed my life in a reloading sense and I have never once looked back or regretted my purchase. I wish I could say that for soooo many other reloading related purchases...

The only other scale I would consider is the sartorius...

YMMV

ETA- Jaeger makes a solid point there are many other factors to SD and maintaining the results you are after.

I will be ok if I upgrade to the A&D and find that I still have an issue elsewhere. For me and my process, all signs are pointing to my powder weighing setup. I hate loading components and not having trust or confidence in the product that I am using.

I have slowly been replacing components and hardware in my reloading line up and my scale system is surely my weakest link currently.

I'm in the same boat but not in the same budget. I was looking at these but couldn't find any reviews? They have a variety of models and supposedly the specs say that weigh in grains too.

Some friendly advice meant in the true since of friendly and not to be an ass, save more or sell unneeded things to fund and A&D, it will keep you from spending money more than once on inferior products that do not do what you want... like I said I wish I had had the sme luck on so many other reloading related purchases

While i feel like 550$ is a ton of money for a scale. Compared to the money i have invested into my rifles, reloading components and reloading hardware, its a fraction of the cost i have invested into the sport.

I feel that......What good is a 6k$ rifle shooting the best components money can buy when im using a 50$ reloading scale that is problematic?

My wife will probably hate me for a little while. Sacrifices must be made.

I'm 77 years young and bought a 120i several months back. Did I need the scale?...NO. But, the known advantages of the scale just make me grin every time I use it. Smooth, accurate, quick...Ah, nuts you know the drill! I have never regretted buying it.
