Yes, Gary is a character, no question about this. But...
I've had the pleasure of knowing Gary and most of the other premium barrel makers for quite a while. Gary could be a little trying sometimes but I get around this by simply using the email order to side step the need to talk to anyone. They keep on doing what they do so well and I don't waste my time either. When the order is ready, I pay and they ship. It's worked out well for dozens of years.
Virtually all of the entrepreneurs I know have little quirks or maybe a little different sense of humor. But, to a person, are all the best at what they've chosen to do. My job is to let them do that and stay out of their way.
Being quirky or a character lets them be the unique individual they are.
Gary’s still doing military contracts if you catch him after he fulfills the contract his turn around is pretty fast compared to other manufacturers. Gary is super knowledgeable be prepared to talk to him for an hour if you call him.

Oh heck just called called Gary he sold the Business to a retired navy guy named Nate they’re in the process of moving the business to Canadian Texas

Who isn't a character when they reach their senior years? When I called to order, we talked about guns for five minutes and the rest of the time was flying and airplanes. Had a hell of a good conversation with him. He's a dyed in the wool Mooney guy, same aircraft I owned for nineteen years.

First ELR Central Long Range Record Match in Nevada « Daily Bulletin
On 1/21/18, new World Records were set under ELR Central rules for verified, consecutive three-shot string without sighters. Competitors started from cold bore, no sighters or ranging shots allowed. That's a tough standard.
Nice as he might be, it seems impossible to screw up a basic barrel order, as many times, as he did for me.
Most telling was complete lack of accountability, even while seeing/admitting that HE kept screwing it up.
In the end, he gave up while declaring that he could not accept 'any more cost' -of his mistakes.
He got the twist wrong, then the profile, then the length. 3rd time sent back I told him to keep his mess and refund me. He wouldn't. MY total loss...

That definitely hasn’t been my experience. Not discounting yours. I just put cash in and envelope and a note with what I wanted
