Clickers In Straight .284

what action is it
some are more prone to clickers
Kelbly Atlas.

This barrel is about done - maybe 300-500 rounds left in it. I think I'll live with it until the barrel is toast. I was already planning on getting a reamer for my next barrel. I'm also set with new brass. I'll likely get a custom sizing die after the new barrel is chambered using the (yet to be ordered) reamer. Then I'll be set for subsequent barrels as I'll have my own reamer and sizing die to match it.

Midway has Redding SB Body Dies. Just got one.
My second .284 chambered for .284 Lapua Brass was the Oh My Clicker times two.
The SB Body Die was a work out ?
Running my Brass thru my Whidden FL Bushing then tiring the SB Body Die was a Rim Puller.
I had to use a RCBS FL Die then the Body Die ( Backed off some) then the Bushing Die.
The Results Smooth as Silk .
Big test this weekend local Match ??????????

My other .284 with neck up 6.5X.284 Lapua Brass Never a Problem on 2nd Barrel ?

Good Luck

A update on my .284 brass ordeal.
The first 300 Lapua .284 brass I got a year and a half ago. This was the brass that made me nuts. The Bolt was hard to open after Firing. I was told you need a SB Die. I got one ran the once fired ( after Cleaning ) thru my FL Bushing Die Whidden the tried the SB Body Die. The results where pulled Rims. Ran the Brass thru a RCBS FL Die then the SB Body Die. We had made a successful firing and bolt opening.

This week needed more brass for up coming Match. Ordered some New .284 Lapua brass.
Big surprise ! This Brass went thru the SB Body like butter ???

As a other post about .284 Brass not being to original Winchester Spec. ??
Did I get 300 case the first time from a different Die at the factory ?
This last order did measure better out of the Box .

Just some information, hope it helps ?

You're comparing fired brass to new brass. Even though the original lot was once fired it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Brass can vary lot to lot but not much. Not enough to matter as long as it's from the same manufacturer.

I'd polish the chamber a bit, so it works with your existing die.
The part people forget and that causes clickers is literally that the bbl swells a tad bit under pressure. That's where the brass wants to stay after it work hardens and loses some ability to spring back. That's also why pressure makes the issue appear faster than with mild loads. Clickers typically have nothing to do with length. Rather, it's the relationship of the die and the chamber, along with pressure. As a rule, feel upon closing the bolt is length related and "feel" at opening is diameter related. If you feel it at first upward movement of the bolt handle when opening, that's pressure. If the feel appears near the top, clickers, that's sizing. Hope this helps.

I'm currently bumping the shoulder .002"-.003".

The cases I'm using have a number of firings on them.....5-8 or so. My understanding is as this happens a standard die can't size the body sufficiently for the (tight) match chamber....resulting in difficult extraction.
Sounds more like you have worn and 'tired' brass. In my opinion, clickers are a product of this. Save your money on dies and buy new brass.

"I shoot a straight .284. I appear to be getting Clickers." (quote)

For us old, uneducated, heathen non-284 shooters, just what the hell is a "clicker",

They happen in 308s too. Assuming you shoot a bolt action, at the top of the bolt lift it sticks, then “clicks” to full travel, often you see guys put their palm on the bolt handle and fingers on the scope to pop the last couple of degrees of travel and extract the case.
