UPDATE ARKEN - QUALITY & DEPENDABILITY ?

About the China thing. As I understand it, they're made in China but not Chinese. Not like the companies which go to a Chinese optical company and order something. At the SHOT show one of the main guys at Arken was being interviewed on the 5-25. Arken has it's own manufacturing facility, in China, and makes it's own scopes. ED lenses come from Japan. To me that makes it an American made scope, from China.
Well stated no doubt.

An email came in today from Arken, looks they are offering 25% on any purchase with a 10.00 donation to the Navy Seals. The link below will get you there. Substantial discount.

What’s the difference between the 6X24 and the 5X25 other than the obvious, does it have better glass etc.

Besides the Japanese glass difference, the 5-25 has 10 Mils per revolution vs the 8 Mils on the 6-24.
IIRC, the objective is 56mm.
I hear that the illumination is brighter on the 5-25 too.

(I know that the most recent 6-24 has much brighter illumination than the other two I have.)

First chance at getting one of the seven EP-5s on the bench for 10-shot groups @ 100 yds. on Sunday. I had no anxiety about the scope holding POI but wanted to check it out really good for sustained grouping. All three 10-shot groups were hovering around the 1/4 inch mark with one measuring .198. Agg. for the 3 groups was .258 after caliber deduction.

That's excellent Bill. Good shooting.

I am mounting all on 20 MOA rails as well.
I just bought a used EP 5 that I put on my RPR 6.5 CM. It hat a Nikon Black fx on it but I thought I would give the Arken a try, since I got it for a steal. With a 20 MOA rail on the RPR, how high/low should the point of impact be at 25 in order to get close to a 100 yard zero?

About an inch low at 25 gets you close at 100. 20 moa rail doesn’t mean anything in this equation.

I picked up an EP-5 last year with their 20MOA combo pack mount kit to put on my Tikka TAC A1, it's a heavy scope but for that I didn't care about weight. Love it so far, tracking is good, no issues at all. I generally use Leopold but more recently tried this, Vortex, and USO. I like this EP-5 well enough it went on and never came off. There's a guy at my local range who has at least 3 EP-4's and likes them enough he just keeps buying more.

@Bill Norris I do agree that the Arken scopes with the Japanese glass are decent. Are they the best? Nah, I don't think so, but for the cost they surely are. I fully agree with your assertion that the "made in China" is the most annoying. In my case my wife is Japanese so I try to support Japan, but I have a love hate relationship wtih Japan also and lived there for 5 years, so think I understand it pretty well. Still, the made in China makes me queazy thinking about them f#@$ing us like they are.

RE: Chinese. The EP-5 is listed as having Japanese ED Glass.
So, instead of the nasty Chinese, I guess my money went to the nice folks who gave us Pearl Harbor and
the Bataan Death March. Irony Intended.

And then I saw this and laughed...I can honestly say that my wife is one of the few Japanese people I truly trust. She has been the most amazing mother to our children also. There is a side of the Japanese that followed the Nazis also, they were fighting with the Germans in WWII. The uniforms in the education system are reminicent of Germany.

I don't plan to buy a lot of Arken scopes, but I do have one other Chinese scope, it's a Primary Arms 4-14x44 FFP. Not a bad scope, I use it on my 308, it has a 308 BDC reticle.

I have 2 other Vortex scopes I like. Both are Gen 1 Viper PSTs, made in the Philipines.

My Arken is an EP-8 1-8x28 LPVO, and I plan to use this for hunting.

One day I will buy a Trijicon, Steiner, Nightforce or other decent scope, but I'm not flush with cash at the moment. I have way more than I really need. Or maybe Arken will do like Apple did and bring their manufacturing back onshore. If the owner is truly a Vet, you would think he would want to bring it back onshore. Or do we need to get in a war with Taiwan to make him see that??? The box my scope came in was the quality of an Apple box, the opening experience was very good. The box on my Primary Arms scope looks and feels like what I would imagine Chinese toilet paper to feel like.

I hope the pigs don't mind that I'm hunting them with a Chinese scope.:p

having a hell of a time getting scopes directly from them right now, had a scope that was supposed to be delivered the 4th still not here and another that was ordered differently still from them and it is still processing a few days down the road
