UPDATE ARKEN - QUALITY & DEPENDABILITY ?

Received an EP-5 5-25x56 in late March. Has been an outstanding scope.
Whatever springiness exists in one example, I have not seen in this and a few other of the earlier gens.
Most reviews will site the high quality of the clicks. Mine is great. I'd call Arken if it was an issue.
The rings. I chose the low (.094) rings, which would have worked for my rail and eye position.
BUT, the projecting gas purge plug protrudes so far below, I couldn't use those without notching the rail.
Not a big deal; the notch is barely visible, but I wish they'd mention that in their information page.
Two piece bases would make the plug issue irrelevant.
Now the fun part:
Did a test with this, a gen 2 Razor, and a current production S&B and Nightforce -all set to 20X.
This spanned a price range of $550.00 (Now $565.00) to around $5000.00.
Looked at high quality printed pages at 300 yards. Had all rifles on rests, with the scope bodies covered
in black cloth, so nothing but the rear focus ring was visible. The parallax knob was adjustable through the
cloth. Had a half dozen reasonably serious rifle shooters look through the assortment. One was a High Master, another a Distinguished Class High Power shooter, both from back when iron sights ruled.
None of the viewers had any idea what scopes they were looking through. Someone intimately familar with all the various reticles could probably figure it out, but that wasn't these guys.
The amazing part:
1. No one rated the S&B on top; A couple commented on the "dark ring" effect -"looking down a pipe".
2. The $3K Nightforce was rated slightly brighter, but not noticeably sharper in resolution in this test.
3. The Arken was rated equal, or "not enough to matter", to the others in overall image quality.
4. No one singled out eyebox/relief as an issue with any of them.

Clearly, a very limited test at close range. Other factors, mirage, etc., were not involved here.
Hope to do a similar test at 1000 and more yards at some point. Have a Gen 3 Razor to add to the fun.

RE: Chinese. The EP-5 is listed as having Japanese ED Glass.
So, instead of the nasty Chinese, I guess my money went to the nice folks who gave us Pearl Harbor and
the Bataan Death March. Irony Intended.

I've got the EP4 6-24 and its GREAT at the price point. I bought it Father's day night and they had a 33% off so I got it for $329. I was on the fence at $499, the sale sealed the deal for me.

Its bright at lower settings, but gets darker up around 20-24. Not dim, but definitely darker. The illumination is useless in daylight so the battery is going to last a long time. Sharpness is good below 18X, but it does suffer at higher magnifications. The parallax adjustment is pretty close to the numbers on the knob. Eye relieve is about average, but eye box is really tight. I guess that could be a positive because it puts your eye at the same spot every time, but I'd like a little more leeway in that regard.

What sets this scope off from others in this price range is the turrets. They are tactile, audible, and just a joy to behold. In addition to feeling very nice, the have easily adjustable zero stops. The distance between the windage and illumination knob is 4" so it'll stress the room in your gun safe.

I'd say this scope is better than most in its price range and competes with scopes selling for upwards of twice the price.

So far I'm pleased with what I'm seeing with the EP-5 5 X 25 X 56 MOA. Compared it to my existing Leupold LRP models and can't say there is much difference except the eye-box is a little tighter. I have to agree with the price factor. The scope is priced way under the quality level I'm seeing.

Finally got a chance to zero one of my 260AI with the Arken EP-5 mounted on it. Tracking is on the money and with it on max magnification 25X I am able to see equally as well if not a tad better down in that dark hole in the woods than I was with the Leupolds. Now to get it out to longer range to see if that still holds true.

As a continued update, I now have three of the EP-5 5 X 25 X 56 Arken scopes mounted on my rifles with another one being delivered tomorrow. Have them mounted on my 260AI Hunter, .308 Hunter, and 6BRX Benchrest. Probably will put the fourth one on my 243AI Benchrest. Hopefully, I will end up replacing all my Leupolds with this scope but will replace them as I am able to sell the existing scopes.

Just like Pringles, can't stop at just 1! Hella scope at a great price!

Thanks Bill. My SH4 6-24x50 are all being paired with lows. My EP5 is being mounted in mediums. I may mock up a set of lows and try the EP5 in them with my LV barrel. All are 20moa bases.

I really appreciate your Reviews here - a little better trusted group!!! I have been following Arken reviews for a couple of years ... just not believing the original hype, got very interested when the new EP5 was anounced. They were sold out before I decided to pull the trigger ... but got one finally a few weeks back. Mounted it on a 280AI ... incredibly impressed. I ordered another for my .260 and ordered a 4-16 to try on a .243 ( wanted a lighter set-up) hope I am not dissapointed, if so I guess it will move over to my .17mach2. I see many more of these in my future, replacing several other scopes that are absolutly inferior to the EP5, I really like the idea of having the same set-ups on the different guns, and at this price point ...Why Not.

I'm very interested in the Arkens but not sure what mounts to get. My rifle is a Howa HCR. It sets in a chassis with a barrel shroud. I hear the rings are taller than normal but that's not much help. I don't want it crashing the shroud but I don't want it so high you can toss a cat under it either. Confused.

Probably could use the mediums with no issues.

Recently became interested in the Arken scope line. Have watched a few videos and see most owners really like the scope and say for the price they are hard to beat. Also, I don't see any used Arken for sale. For any Arken owners who would like to share their experiences either good or bad please post below.
About the China thing. As I understand it, they're made in China but not Chinese. Not like the companies which go to a Chinese optical company and order something. At the SHOT show one of the main guys at Arken was being interviewed on the 5-25. Arken has it's own manufacturing facility, in China, and makes it's own scopes. ED lenses come from Japan. To me that makes it an American made scope, from China.
