Target Scope cleaning service

Have a old Balvar 24 target scope I would like to have cleaned. Is there a good service out there besides Parson’s as he quoted 10-12 months?

No go with any of them. Guess I will look for parts scope with good reticle and do it myself.

Took mine apart and cleaned. Still has small pepper spots but usable and much better. Hate to buy a good scope and trash mine as except for reticle considering the very limited use on a old 40x Rimfire. My scope otherwise is excellent and works good. If a beat up comes along with good reticle I am interested. Have had a lot of offers from members for their scopes and I thank them all.

Thanks to all. Have developed my own cleaning procedures for these and have mine up and clear as a bell. Purchased 2 more excellent Balvar 24 scopes and now have a couple of spare reticle assemblies for them too. Issue with these is lubricant out gassing over time and clouding the glass reticle. Didn’t want to wait a year for someone else to do it.

I communicated with Cheryl and explained what I did that she has not done to correct it the problems. These scopes are different than all the others from the period as these were FFP with etched on glass reticle and zoom optics. Require special techniques that are not the same for the Unertl, Lyman and Fecker from same time. If any members need a little help with their old Balvar 24 I might be able to help with in less time than others.

Just cleaned a Balvar 24 Target scope for a member here and got it back to shooting condition. Member was happy and was going to send me another soon. No long wait and like to help members.
Picked up the same scope and it requires cleaning. would you be interested in servicing this one?

thanks,

ray

Yes I can have a look. Most of the problems are cloudy dirty reticle plane due to lubricant migration over time. I can usually get this cleaned up.
Send it to me and I will evaluate and get back to you.

Still impressed with the quality of these old scopes. Image is excellent and focusing is spot on and I have used them all. The factory cam rear mount is complicated and not precise and reason I prefer Kuharsky or similar rear micrometer mount. My early sixties custom shop 40x in the non standard at the time 22-250 caliber is quite happy with my Balvar 24.

Thanks. I built my own special tools and techniques to do it myself. Have performed cleaning for several folks here with good results. Had considerable optical experience in the semiconductor industries many years ago.

Thought I recognized the tweezers. A lot of people are amazed by the cleanliness and precision required to manufacture Semicondutors.
