After nearly 30 years of prairie dogging l have found a death ray that spews 32gr VMAX @ 4000fps. The flatness of a 22-250 with less than HALF the recoil! No more worry about holdover with my 222 or 223 and no more big BOOM of a 22-250. Since this 20TAC came along l am so anxious to see it perform. l even found published load data AND bullets from HORNADY. Dont talk to me about 32gr Blitz Kings or 35gr Bergers. There are NONE.

I enjoy my 20 Tac also, very much. It and the 20SCC get the majority of my critter shooting now days, but i will never retire my 22-250. It just gave so much pleasure for so many years, it just has to make a run once in a while each year also.

Check out a thread called "20 Sploder".

My 22-250s are on an extended vacation. They will have to go back to work when I decide to shoot up all the 55 BTs I’ve accumulated over the years.the 20s are my blue collar workers as long as the bullets and primers hold out.

You could always take your 22-250 and rebarrel it to a 20-250 and make it a specialty ELR PD gun shooting the 55gr Berger's. At 300yds and beyond, particularly the beyond beyond distances :) , those Berger 55's out of a 20-250 is a very flat shooting cartridge.

Just about any of the 20's like the ones based off of necked down 221FB, 222, 223, or just a straight 204 Ruger are a lot of fun and very addicting. I went from one to none then before I knew it I had three different 20 cals. all with different parent cases and all shooting different weight bullets.

Friend of mine shoots a 20-250, uses it on coyotes. Goes real fast and is an absolute laser.

Do you know if they are shooting the heavies like the Berger 55's or similar or are they shooting lighter bullets like the 40's? My 20-250 is pretty much set up to just shoot the 55's.

My rat shooting started seriously around 1968 with a M700 Varmint Special 22-250. It started the addiction and served me well.......until I found the joy of less recoil, less blast and less powder in the smaller cased cartridges like the 223 for that kind of work. Once I "found" the pure joy of the .20's, it sealed the fate of my 22-250 and it went down the road.

Great for coyotes though, but with the price of fuel now, it's not on my list of things to do. Rat shooting however surely is, and there are MUCH better cartridges for that pursuit. Two of my buddies burned out 22-250 barrels in the rat patch in one day when too much enthusiasm got the best of them.

These days my 20VT and 221FB see the most use. Much less powder, recoil and blast = more fun.

I'm a big fan of the 22 250 and for long range varmint hunting. It is fantastic for this purpose. Unfortunately, I shot the barrel out of mine a few years ago and never replaced it. But while I used it, I found it to be outstanding and was completely satisfied. I never found recoil to be an issue in a heavy varmint model rifle.

However, the overdevelopment in my area and changes in farming practices has rendered the 22 250 unnecessary since the vast majority of my shot opportunities are under about 275 yards so I use 223 Rem bolt rifles for all my varmint hunting these days. But if you have access to hunting areas where long range shots are the norm, the 22 250 is hard to beat.
