I’m Getting My New Eyes This Month!

Wednesday I go in for my pre op exam, followed by the lens surgery in Two separate gists. By the end of September, I will be finished.

I posted a photo of the itinerary, I have been putting this off for some time, but finally decided to go for it.

I will be getting the latest in lens, the Light Adjustable Lens from RxSight. My surgeon will be Dr Jeffery Whitsett.

I am really looking forward to this. Dr Whitsett has said he sees no reason why I should not have 20/20 at all distances, as I have no other signs of the various age related ailments that can be present in people my age.

Just for everyone’s info if you are considering this, the cost is $5000 per eye. That covers everything. My insurance and Medicare Plan A will pick up very little, as they consider this elective surgery.

But I figure the best thing to do is get it all done now so in my remaining years it will be one less thing to worry about.B2BC4454-F57F-4696-AC42-F644645B1BA3.jpeg

I had the lens replaced in the right eye in Feb. Works great. Just ask/make sure they put some music you like on the headphones. The noise of the machine cutting the old lens off is annoying too say the least.

I think you will find this to be well worth it. I did the same thing a few years ago. Mine elective as well and I had to pay full cost. I went from not being able to see my glasses if I set them down to not needing them. I hope you have similar results.

Howdy!

Don't be suprised if you wake up in the recovery room... with a tennis ball-like object taped to your head.

Also, when the light angles are just right... your lenses might reflect light back outwards.... making you look
Yule Brenner in the movie " West World ".

I am sure you will absolutely love your upcoming “new” vision
10 years ago my wife had both lenses replaced with the same type of lens mainly because she was a practicing pathologist who spent the day at a microscope and needed to alter her focal distance constantly while at the scope and her surgeon recommended the variable type
Yup, around 5k each but they worked out great
She has since retired and no longer uses a microscope but her vision with her standard pistol sights is excellent
Best wishes for a speedy and totally uneventful procedure

Last time i had an eye doctor visit he said i would be getting some glasses for distance. I aske how do you know you haven't done the exam yet. "Cause i can see your cataracts have gotten bigger form here." Just the thing you don't want to hear. Everything is darker than before, i need a flashlight way more than I used to.

Your insurance and/or Medicare part B should cover lens replacement surgery. If your doctor isn't smart enough to consider it a "quality of life issue" and therefore "necessary" then get a different doctor. The only thing you should have to pay for is the multi focal lenses. Most insurance companies cover single distance lens replacement. I elected for the multi focal lenses and paid $2500 per eye out of pocket. The jury is still out whether the fancy lenses were worth it. I pretty much don't need glasses now except for fine detail work. If I could do fine detail work without glasses, I would be a happy camper. You will be amazed at how much your vision improves. For me, before surgery, it was like I was wearing dark yellow sunglasses. Good luck on your surgery. The eye drops are a PITA, but the end result is worth it. Mike

Best Wishes for that day Jackie!
And in for the range report when you test drive the new eyes!
All my friends have loved it and I am sure you will too.

VA paid 100% for mine (assuming cataracts), including the extra for astigmatism correction.
Amazing difference now. Peeps are no problem now.

I don’t have Medicare B because in my income bracket, the modifier drives the cost through the roof.
it’s one of the little catch 22’s with which they hit senior citizens who continue to work.

The doctor said he would submit it through all the channels to see if I could get a break. My response was if it delayed things at all, screw it.

I did the same thing with my teeth 3 years ago. Rather than going halfway with what the insurance would pay for, (more crowns on bad teeth or dentures), I opted for the complete Clear Choice dental implants.
$43,000.

Jackie goof ;luck. Thank you for the information. i was just told i have cataracts I had not heard about the lenses you are getting. Gives me some hope. Please keep us posted.

Jackie, been thinking about this too.. I assume you researched for the best Dr. in the Houston area and Whitsett is the man ???

If anybody is interested, The guy in arkansas does a surgery called relex. It is supposed to eliminate cataracts before they start. I talked to a girl i know that works there and its $4500/eye. It is a good thing to eliminate glasses and cataracts before they start.
