Bad eyes?

I am not affiliated in any way nor have I tried the product, however, this seems to be the answer to my problem my optomitrist had no way to help me with.

http://www.tacticalrx.com/ is a lens grinder that can custom make your glasses. Woohoo, I am hoping I can soon see that front sight on the 1911 again!

I have vision issues to. Have you seen the infomercial with the glasses with an adjustable perscription. They are cheap but the idea sounds good. I want to get a pair and see if I can adjust them to different focusing points. Might help you- also I use the cheap readers to see the front sight on my 1911 and they help looking through the scope. I got several powers and took them to the range and tried them. I'm still looking for something better. I still get a blurry spot in an aperture site.

None of these companies "custom grind lenses"... all eyeglass lenses are molded plastic at the factory (somewhere in the bowels of darkest Asia)- these guys get their lenses from the same places that your local eye glass shop gets theirs.
If you need shooting glasses for pistol, have your local eye glass shop make you a pair of bifocals, with the bottom, your normal infinity prescription, and the top, add +2/3 diopter. And have the separation line, above your straight ahead vision, so when you tilt your head down, you are looking through the +2/3 diopter part.

I tried those, "line separation" glasses...Once. Not so easy to get used to them as you make it sound. I found I was so intent on looking through the right portion of the lens I was losing my attention on the crosshairs and the target.

You have "Crosshairs" on your 1911??

You must have a very unique 1911 pistol.

Vector makes a Red-Dot scope with cross-hairs for the 1911. Nothing at all unusual about a 1911 wearing a scope:View attachment 986703 View attachment 986704

The OP is clearly talking about iron sights.

"I am hoping I can soon see that front sight on the 1911 again!"

If you have a scope, the scope has it's own correction, so you don't need special glasses - so the problem is non-existent with a scope.

When I turned 62, 2 years ago, I decided to get something more or less along the same lines as you. I needed to see the front sight better.
Attending the shot show in Las Vegas one of the pryer years, I visited a venders booth who is from Phoenix AZ. who sells glasses for almost ever sport that needs good vision. I'm not sure I can mention the company name so I won't at this time.

What was suggested to me was a lens for my dominant eye for seeing the front sight clearly, and the other lens for distance. It worked beautifully. I will recommend this for anyone needing this type of special shooting glasses. It worked really, really, well.

Wal-Mart has what you need!
Well I'm 60 and my right (shooting ) eye has damage to the cornea. I have had cataract surgery with distance lenses. With the cheap readers I see the irons on a pistol better and the image in a riflescope is clearer. Unfortunately I haven't figured out a way to see rifle irons to well.

Put a rear aperture sight on and try it! It's only necessary then to see the front sight fairly clearly!

Well, Walmart does not have what I need, nor does BJ's, nor MY so-called optometrist (she nearly pooped when I told her I needed to see the front sight of my pistol) and I don't care if they farm out the grind. What I care about is being able to draw and with at least one eye see that front sight, not a mushy fuzzy blur. I need to be able to see thru my upper portion of the glasses, maybe the part near the nose, and pick up that sight easy and fast, without craning my head, bouncing about looking like I am a goose. My split times have dropped off terrible in three years. Reader glasses just make WHAT I am shooting at un-seeable, and that won't work. So I plan to call them and see what can be done.

If it works, i will let you all know.

I worked with Decot 2 yrs ago and it was the best investment in shooting gear ive made in last 4 yrs...
Yup, Decot. I wasn't sure if I could promote a business and or sound like I was.
I too thought it was a good investment. Seeing the front sight and being able to see the target also make for good shooting.

I hope you find something that works for you and I'd sure like to know about it. If there is something better I can do I would.

Thanks RM. When I try aperture sights on a rifle I get a blur in one quadrant. I've tried the lenses that go in them but they don't seem to help.

What convinced me to give them a try was their satisfaction guarantee and the fact that they work directly with top shooters. They wont tell you who, but if you guess, they will neither confirm or deny. Look at some pictures of some top female shooters and their wearing decots... You do the math....

I think I'll contact decout and see if they can help me.
