I am looking for people that have used the Sinclair competition rests since they first started coming out. Have there been any improvements since inception? What if any upgrades to the newest version is needed? the good , the bad, and the ugly??

Thanks folks.

I only have experience with the new model, and here are the changes as described on the product page:
Hardware for Hard Wear
The Sinclair Competition Rest includes upgraded hardware: a beefed up center column (1.95" up from 1.375"); threaded post (1" diameter up from ¾"); leg screws (½" diameter up from 3⁄8"); and large diameter fluted speed screw – all made from high grade stainless steel to withstand a lifetime of abuse. All knob controls and handwheel are machined from aluminum then anodized or powder coated to provide a durable grip surface for all adjustments.

I added the return spring system sold by a forum member previously. I didn't use mine without it, so I can't compare the difference.

Can you tell me about the return spring?

This is what I was looking for in a previous thread that I posted.

So, Sinclair DID upgrade the Comp rest with beefier center column and threaded post diameters. Glad I found this thread.

Don't know how old my used one is and can't run out to measure the center post right now.

What I CAN tell you is that after repeatedly replacing the E-clips on the elevation (rear) leg fine tuner, I gave up and put a locking collar on the weight bearing side of the shaft under the knob. A shaft I replaced because the original got bent and I couldn't quite get it straight enough. The E-clips work fine to keep the shaft on the knob (topmost groove) and on the adjustment assembly/foot thing (the bottom-most groove).

The rest works great, otherwise. But I think right now that 17 pounds would be enough. I don't have the best tools or near enough patience to try to trim the weight down. It must be a reversible project IF I ever do it.
