SEB NEO-X

Manual draft:

NEO-X

NEO-X is basically a combination between the NEO with the rapid elevation adjustment etc, blending with the light & compactness of the Mini-X, plus the extra wide top as the MAX’s, with many improved parts and new features. Designed for those who seek a light-compact rest and want the best one.
This rest is completely different than the NEO standard. Most of the components in the NEO-X are new and not compatible with the NEO/Mini/MAX. Only the top/bag/stop and the joystick of the NEO-X that can be implemented on the NEO/Mini/MAX.
Rest is shipped in transportation mode, with the legs folded. The leveling screws can be removed and reinstalled quickly. (F-Class feet is optional item, only available on request).
In storage mode, it is 6” thick x 14” wide x 10.5” tall with the carrying handle on the top. When the legs fully open, the base has extra wide footprint 16.5“ CTC side to side and 14.5“ CTC from back to front. *(CTC=center to center, of the leveling screws).
It weighs approximately 8,4 kgs ( 18.5 lbs) complete with the joystick, the handle and the driver.
Rest is supplied with the front bag empty. You will need to fill the front bag with sand, by yourself. (Sand could be different from place to place, please use what you think or find that works best for you)

CAUTIONS:
Please read the manual (and the exploded drawing) before use.
Do not change the initial setting if not really necessary.
I recommend to twist the joystick for two or three full rotations and move the joystick in rapid circular motions (any directions) before use. This will release the initial friction in the bearings mechanism and will make the joystick action even smoother.
Please use the towel provided to cover the rest during hot day or dusty condition.
Please keep the rest clean after use, put it back in the case or a safe place and away from any collisions, also please store the leveling screws (and/or the F-Class feet) in the provided small bags to avoid scratches etc.
**During this testing period you would probably need to keep the plywood box to keep the rest saver during shipping **Also (if possible) please don’t change my initial setting so that I can get input on whether the settings are already sufficient or still need adjustments.

FEATURES:
Rest can be reversed with the single leg in the front toward the target, or at shooter's side.
Rest can be used in normal mode (up for up, etc) or in reverse motion (up for down, etc).
Folding & self locking legs for compact storage. There is an innovative “insert nut” (# ) allows the leveling screws to be removed and installed rapidly and securely.
Standard configuration is elevation knob on the left hand side and single leg in the front toward the target (Option #1). This is the standard configuration for right handed shooters.
Under request the NEO-X can be ordered with Option #2, i.e. elevation knob on the right hand side and the single leg in the front. This is mostly for left handed shooters.
This would give the user total of 4 (four) different rest configurations.
The top can swivel 360 degrees, can accept up to six inches wide forend, and can be locked rapidly & securely from either side.
New front bags are rapid and easier to install without any screws/tools.
NEO-X has a new and more refined internal mechanism and gives extra smooth joystick action. The tension adjustment is also easier.
Larger joystick travel (approximately MOA horizontally x MOA vertically). It will cover the air rifle & rimfire target. Along with the pivotal top allows the user to get a wider view in the scope, e.g., for checking the current condition etc.
Lowest setting is at 5.3”, highest setting can be over than 12”, counts from the bottom of the base to the top of the front bag where the stock rides on.
The NEO-X will be available in Raw (mill/polish finish), All Black, All Blue, All Red, or combination of Blue-Black, Red-Black, Orange Gold-Black. Some components are remaining in raw / polished finish.
Equipped with a carrying handle on the top. The joystick and the driver are attached on the carrying handle (by a pair of clip-on delrin) for more neater and organized storage, also to minimize chance of losing or forgetting to bring them. It’s also more saver when transporting the rest because the end tip of the leveling screws are facing down. When twisted to shooter’s side (either side) it can be used as leverage to attach cartridge holder, or a tablet holder, or spotting scope holder, with some modifications or extension.

What comes with the NEO-X:
1. A front bag of your choice, for F-Class or for Benchrest.
2. A set of three standard leveling screws, plus one extra short.
3. A soft carrying case
4. A carrying handle on the top with clip-on delrin
5. A joystick in standard length 14”. A driver 14” long.
6. A 50x100 cm towel, plus three small bags to store the leveling screws or F-Class feet, or both.
7. Supplied with 3 mm allen wrench with T handle, 4 mm allen wrench with delrin handle, and standard 8 mm metric allen wrench.
Alum F-Class feet 3” would be available on request, for those who seek a light rest.
Joystick extension 3”, 6”, 9” or shorter joystick would also be available on request.

PREPARATION:
Legs will open out by pressing / pulling the small buttons at the base of the legs. The small button will lock the position of the leg automatically & securely.
The ‘ready to use’ rest is with the single leg (# ) set in the center. The left & right leg (# ) can be set parallel (open 90 degrees) or fully wide open (120 degrees), or a combination of both according to your need and available space.
For F-Class it could be easier to store the leveling screws along with the F-Class feet in place.
The end tip of the leveling screws is turned with a little radius (not sharp) to avoid accident when transporting the rest, as well as to avoid damage on the top of the bench. They are also turned slightly above the end tip so that when the set screw on the F-Class feet is tightened it wouldn’t damage the thread. It is a simple solution but works well.
For Benchrest shooting, using super-feet / stabil-feet is recommended. Leveling screws can still stay on each leg when storing, only make sure that the end tip does not protrude from the base of the legs.

RAPID ELEVATION ADJUSTMENT:
The rack & pinion system with new cross-gear mechanism allows the user to adjust the height of the rest easily and rapidly from either side, either by hand or using the driver such as when shooting prone with extra-long stock.
You might need to lock the bridge by the locking lever once the height is set. You could lock the pivotal top (with the other lever) once the angle is set. Or just leave them unlocked when shooting.

TENSION ADJUSTMENT:
The joystick action of this rest can be adjusted from very light to a bit stiff, rapidly and easily.
Use the provided 4mm allen driver with black delrin handle. One tension screw facing the shooter in ‘normal mode’ up for up is for the vertical friction. One other in the front is for horizontal friction.
Turning in / deeper = more tension. Think about a few ‘clicks’ on your rifle scope (one at a time) when adjusting.

UPLIFT SPRINGS ADJUSTMENT:
There are 2 uplift springs that can be accessed from the bottom of the oval shaped body/disc.
These uplift springs act like a counterweight, to give upward force or to counter-balance the weight of the rifle. Deeper (turning clockwise) = more upward pressure.
This rest is set with 2 uplift springs, it will work for any rifle weighing from 15 to about 25 lbs. Use one spring only (either side) for a lightweight rifle say under 10 lbs.
*Important info to notice: These headless allen screws can only be turned in as deep as a maximum of 4 mm (less than ¼”), do not go deeper because it would restrict the vertical travel of the joystick.
I recommend the use of counterweight (with specific weight) for rifle heavier than 30 lbs.
Use the 4mm allen driver provided for easier adjustment or installation.

REST TOP:
Improved top with one piece alum block. It is generally better than ever, also much easier to install the front bag. Reference marks of 2”, 3”, 4”, 5” are added on the top for a symmetry setting up. Improved side plate and front bag and stopper as well.
Two small bubble levels are added on the top (one on each side), a circular bubble level is also placed in the center of the base. These bubble level are only as an ‘aid’ to level up the base/rest. Sand in the front bag could shift during firing or probably does not match with the bubble level. Please believe more in the bubble level on your rifle/scope than the ones on the rest.

FRONT BAGS:
It will be available in two pc bags i.e. pair of ‘L‘ shape sandbags, or three pc bags configuration i.e. delrin block with slick teflon sheet on the sides + bottom sandbag, for F-Class.
Three pc bags or one pc bag for Benchrest competition will be available on request / when ordering.
The new front bag design would only work for specific stock width, 2-1/4” or 3”, 4”, 5” or 6” max.
This front bag will not allow the stock to be squeezed down or get bitten in between the side bags and the bottom bag.
The NEO-X bags are NOT compatible with the NEO standard / Mini / MAX.
Upgrading top & bag from the older rests to NEO-X top & bag would be available on request.

Thank you for choosing the NEO-X!

Seb, for those of us who don't use facebook I appreciate you posting this so we can see what and how. Might be a good idea to post Mike's contact info for fokes like me who have lost it, thanks John

Looks like an amazing rest. I wonder how many years I will have to wait till they are plentiful enough to buy one. May just have to settle for an older generation version for now.

Seb,
Any pictures of the 3 pc Benchrest front bags? Also confused on the new front bag design being stock specific..

confused I guess...I ordered a 3pc for the mini x and it has adjustability. Or am I reading this wrong?
Thanks!
Mike

Hi Mike,

I would think with two piece 'L' shape bags (like shown in the video bellow on the first seconds) the user can use it for various stock width, say from about 2" up to 6" wide. I would also guess or believe that this bag would be legal for any F-Class and BR match such as under NBRSA. (NBRSA informed me about last winter that all of my front bags are legal to be used in NBRSA matches, including the 3 pc bag design & the F-Class model that sewn down or has low spot in the middle).

The one pc bag is for those who prefer or require one pc bag, such as for IBS match. I should have a prototype bag ready in the next few days. This bag would probably fit both the NEO-X and the NEO standard.

The 3 pc bag is only alternate for the 2 pc 'L' shape bags.
The bottom/horizontal bag is sand-bag (filled with sand). We could use delrin & teflon sheet on the sides (for F-Class only), or sand-bag (for BR match).

With the new one pc and three pc bags design the user can only use 3" bag for 3"stock, 2-1/4" bag for 2-1/4" stock, or 6" bag for 6" stock. This is what I called "specific stock width"... just my English.

Thanks for showing me this thread Seb.
The NEO-X is amazing.
The prototype is here as of a hour or so ago.
Seeing it and handling it for the first time this morning, I was awestruck (I know I am prejudiced).
It will be going to a number of shooters from different disciplines, in the near future, that has already been chosen by Seb.
NOTE: There may be some changes to what you see now based on the reviews given by others.
I will be contacting everyone on my NEO/NEO-X waiting list soon to find out if they want the BR version or the F-Class version. Seb also has F-Class feet for the NEO-X as well.
Everyone who was already on the NEO waiting list, who doesn't get a Standard NEO, will automatically be on the NEO-X waiting list, based on the date they got on the list.
If you are already on the Standard NEO list, and you know you want the NEO -X, I will make a note of that as well.
If someone doesn't want the NEO-X (who is currently on the Neo wait list), I would also move them to the MINI-X waiting list (keeping the same date) if they so desired.
For those on the Standard NEO waiting list, currently, I will still be getting some more of those from Sebastian.
Seb has also informed me, he will continue to make the Standard Neo for a time, until interest fades, then he will completely stop production of the Standard Neo.

Just got through putting the new SEB NEO-X through the paces and after 130 rounds over her, I must say "I was impressed!".
The control of the new "X" was just amazing, I could actually move the dot of my crosshair's within a bullet hole on the target at 100 yards, without binding, sticking in place or backlash (trying to return on its own from the path it came from.).
Seb, the quality of your product is only equaled by you engineering and innovation! I tip my hat to you boss!
That's all, Keep'em Small,
Speedy
Here is the link to the YouTube video. My first attempt so don't hurt my feelings, you know how sensitive I am....

I was lucky enough due to Seb’s generosity to win a new SEB Neo-X at the USA F-Class Nationals a week ago. It is a work of art and engineering excellence. Everything Speedy said in his video is true! Plus while testing a 22lr F-Class rifle yesterday at 100 yards with my new toy, I found something of importance to 22lr F-Class shooters. The NRA’s A-33 target used at 100 yds is a tall one with the sighter bull at the top and 2 record bulls under that with a center-to-center distance of 26.25”. Unlike some other rests, I could use the joystick to go from the top-sighter bull to the bottom-record bull with room to spare! No more having to change the rest head height!

What is the minimum width stock this rest will accept? I think I saw a bag or slide set that had one horizontal bag or slide along the bottom. Then the 2 side pieces are adjustable for width. Will this fit a really small stock with a 2 inch fore end?

With the "L" shaped bags that comes with every NEO-X, they will work with a 2" wide stock.
Of course, you could order a 1-piece front bag for narrower width, if you wanted that as well.
