Just how bad is this?

I was going through some old totes and found these in shit shape. Box was water damaged in my storage unit. Im going to clean them up if for no other reason than to save the clips. But, is this just surface crap on the rounds that can be cleaned, or is this a no go for shooting? Im split 50/50, concerned enough to ask. This is all modern production PPU. No older than 5 years old. Was in storage for 2 years.

The round to chamber interface is a pretty precise fit for a lot of reasons - safety and performance being the two primary ones. I don't think I'd even contemplate cleaning and using those.

Well I need the clips, lol. I don’t mind discarding the rounds, just thought I’d ask in the off chance that it was no big deal to clean off the green stuff. Two boxes worth of ammo there. Might save them to pull them apart and re use the casings, unless the green is an indication of the metal being compromised.

Green is the result of a chemical reaction so they are compromised to some extent. How much is anybody's guess, unless they are a chemist or metallurgist AND have done a study on that type of corrosion. I wonder if water got into those rounds? Taking a few apart might tell you something.

If you have a vibratory tumbler, throw a couple rounds in there and see how they come out. Personally, I wouldn't shoot them, though.

You mention a "storage unit." If that was in one of those steel, non-climate-controlled units that are everywhere... you may have issues far beyond what you're seeing visually. I'm talking about heat.

Regardless, I wouldn't let that ammo within ten feet of any rifle I cared about.

Pull and clean the bullets, keep the clips, discard the rest. That's not Condition code "A" ammo there; or B or C or even D. Trust me, SFC Theodore "Ted" Angeloff was a mentor of mine.

After I got everything apart I found several of the necks just split…not taking a chance with it…at all. Just keeping the clips.
