Windows or Chromebook

I'm here a lot and thought this would be a good place to ask this question because of the accumulative knowledge here.
I'm running "Windows 10," on a 10yr old laptop and its starting to get annoying. I do not need 80% of what Windows has to offer. I've been looking at Chromebook because they are saying "even a caveman can do it." and that's me. I need simplicity, and performance to some degree.
Most of what I do is to visit places like this one, some online banking, email stock market, weather ect.
I wanted to make this a poll, just couldn't get it done.

Apple guy here. Everything I do is on an IPad Pro. It is very user friendly. It has the M1 chip in it, means this iPad is just as fast or faster than most laptops. I use Excel, Word, Noteability, Docs, Zoom, on line banking. Check it out, maybe time to switch to the dark side.

I run both windows and Chrome, so it really depends on what you do with Windows 10. I use Microsoft Outlook for email, calendar, etc., only because I learned it many moons ago, and while it's updated, it still works/functions the same as it did 30 yrs ago. With Chrome you will need to find an "app" that you like to do email, another app for calendar, another app for word processing, etc. The browser is easy tho. LOL

I would avoid inexpensive Chromebooks and laptops. The hardware is often on the cheap/breakable side, things like screen hinges aren't as durable as nicer options.

I think a tablet is likely a better option for you, perhaps with a wireless keyboard if you want something to type on.

I'm not interested in an ipad. I will need a laptop in the 15+inch range.

So your saying you have to add on as needed? isn't that better?

You will have a learning curve on a Chromebook after being on Windows for so long.
Your 10 year old laptop is likely your frustration. A new windows laptop will let you do the same things, the same way you have always done, except with greater speed. (unless you are unfortunate enough to get one with windows 11, which I already hate)
If you are already using an apple phone, you should have no issues with the transition to a Chromebook, and it may actually integrate better with what you have. Apple and Windows do not play together well in my experience. Windows and Android, I have less issues.
But, then again, I hate Apple products, so you should consider that............
So, if I'm reading you right, you are a Windows man.
Another thing. If I get a new Windows will it not be #11

Why not?

We’re not seeing prolific issues with the ones we have at work. Thousands of installs, there are no more issues than with Win10.
The learning curve from Windows 10 to 11 is pretty steep in my experience.
For someone with limited, non business, needs, it may still work fine, but I find the tablet systems much easier to learn for most people.

You don't list any software beside the typical apps. I run Windows but also use a Chromebook and Android tablet and IOS on my iPhone. So I definitely favor and couldn't be without Windows for my main use.

Have you done a factory reset your laptop? I try and do it at least every couple of years to clean things up and the results are incredible. Speeds everything up and cleans out the old rarely used programs and stuff.

Guess I'm at the opposite end of the experience. I've been playing with Win 11 on a new laptop. I was apprehensive from what I read about how much time it would take me to come up to speed. I almost don't notice the difference. Instead of going to the left side of the taskbar, I go to the center now. And I find it much easier to find rarely used settings in Win 11, that Win 10. But I realize our background and use might be significantly different.

what glo said. if you give apple a try and give yourself time enough to learn the os ( I would say a month) you wouldn't kick a hog in the butt for a truckload of pc's. you can get a 2017 air or pro for your price range and never look back. good luck with your purchase:cool:
